Suggestion for the forum
Add search box on main page and each forum page with simple options as "search only this forum"/"search all forums" and/or "search all words"/"search any word"/"search exact phrase"... This will be kind of like quick search boxes...

Suggestion for the CDs
Adding Autopatcher every month will be useful... I understand that having 250 MB of the space used up for the same purpose maybe difficult... What if you carry the full version every 3 or 4 months and the update version in the other months? Also, it will be better to be on the CD instead of DVD because some people may not have DVD drives (there isnt one at my office, though I have one on my laptop)...
Promoting free software so that people become more aware of alternatives to piracy - on a rotation basis, every month have one section (say Multimedia or Internet) devoted to only freeware...
Color coding software names on the CD cover to identify freeware/shareware/adware/demos...
Sometimes (very rarely though), when I install a software mentioned as freeware on your CD, I find it comes with spyware... (I detect this after installation when they try to access the network and are caught by the firewall)... Some extra care may be taken while testing software as freeware or spyware...
Some of the smaller software may be provided as links that can be used for downloading...


Suggestions for the Magazine:
A small space for Programmers - rotate languages on a monthly basis, provide something for the novice and something for the advanced user...
A more detailed A-List on a regular basis (maybe once in 3 months or so)... Provide best performance, best value for high-range/mid-range and lower-end varieties of products...

^^^ And what percentage of Indian population (and more pertinently, Digit subscribers/purchasers do you suppose has broadband connection? We live in India not the United States... Sure, I have BBand and I can download overnight anything I want since I have unlimited night time browsing... But thats not the case for more than half the readers... Many use Dialup and some may not even have internet connection...

Of course, you could have two different editions - one with CD/DVD and one without... But somehow I just dont see it as a good marketing strategy... Those with broadband connections can always get articles on the net too... I dont think the additional subscribers to mag-only will provide extra profit... Considering that maybe a third of existing subscribers also may downsize...

I dont mind if they give auto-patcher every month but that 250 MB version must be given like, once in 2 months. there is a light version of some <10MB w/ only patches availabe too! I would recommend giving that as it saves a lot of space

REGARDING PACKING OF CD/DVD:-every month digit supplies cd/dvd in a combo box of plastic.when i take out them from the box frequently.The cd/dvd develop very small cracks & it becomes really unsafe to run them in drive because of risk of breaking.it had happened with me 2 times.pls do something to this matter

What has happened to the forum? I was very happy to find that Digit has finally shifted to vBulletin. But now the forum has become incredibly slow. Pages which took 5 seconds to load earlier now take in access of 30 seconds. Do something about it team digit. Better move to faster server.

Though i like to put avtar and all..but i think we shld remove avtar and all images from forum...

Main thing, the forum is for discussions..not for our pleasure or entertainment..so if we remove all images from it and make it simple like google's gmail or etc sites...just think..isn;t it good?

just use AJAX+HTML+PHP without any image...great speed of response can be get...

If user wants show some image then he can put the link to image...no need to post the image in the forum...as i thnk...


After all this is a sugestion...its ur choice to make it or not...
but i thnk it is better to make like gmail,very simple and speedy...

I am really very happy that you changed forum software to vBulletin .
now forum has really some Great powers. but it should also be noticed that our forum deserves a cool vbulletin skin like Aria etc. Really its mine last REQ from Digit team that we could have a really nice skin for vBulletin .

The Digit set comes with two books and two discs.

How anout this?

Let the CD be complitely be dedicated to softwares' related to the Fast Track Book

Eg: If its Fast Track on a programming language, give tools, source codes etc related to that particluar thing on the CD

OR

If its on Linux or Windows, give some tools related to the OS

If possible, Digit can also give an extra CD totally dedicated to the Fast Track book

you can call it as the Fast Track CD

Digit is my Fav Mag!! I would like to make one suggestion to you..... Can you also put some Wallpapers of Gorgeous Damsels that appear on the cover of your Magazine inside the Digit CD !! That would provide for some nice treat to our Desktops!! Hope many of us Readers would like to have these nice Walls on the Digit CD

just few suggestion:


---please add a note to each software(shareware,trial) u provide mentioning whether in case of its expiration,it is still possible for normal running of the windows

eg:i once installed ACD see and it accompanied with all the picture files and afterwards , when it got expired i was not ale to open those files.as softwares associate themselves with so much number of things and put their files in too much of location...its better for u to add a note about its vitality for normall running of a system....
this is one eg... there are loads of it and i am begining to hate these kinda things
so please test those softwares and place a note near to it (PLEASE....)

--- try to add an article to how to remove a software COMPLETELY as i have been seeing so much of residues even i uninstall them...
---try to provide worthful softwares .. not those little useless,space filling ...number rising,just to show WE give loads of software.

I have been thinking about this for months but always forget to say it.
When u give s/w for Linux please include a text file with a description of the s/ws so that it can be opened from linux. You provide these in the flash file which cant be opened from Linux, making it difficult to make out which s/w did what. I hope you solve this problem from the next issue.

the may edition is a very good one, just one request though , like you guys put the article on carbon nanotubes being the future of chips , can you like put "an article" in every issue of digit on topics dealing with electronics and chip design ,me myself being an electronics student would defintely love that...
