Now that I am on a PC.

Having a DAW is like having a whole recording studio in your house. You can use plugins and effects just like in a studio and create high quality soundtracks.

This is what I made while fooling around with LMMS.

If anyone of you is interested in giving this a go, you can get LMMS from here : *lmms.sourceforge.net/

There's nothing there.

Is Cubase a DAW? Never bothered to use it though. I got the Cubase dvd with something I bought.

Probably because its set to private. Let me make it public.

Yes, Cubase is a decent DAW. Never used it so cannot comment.

fixed!

Edit : Did the first solo of Comfortably Numb today. Its not very perfect but just enough to understand how to play it. Will cover the second solo later.

Checked out your "Comfortably Numb" solo. Its nice.
Try improving the bends on the 15th fret (around 0:05 & 0:13) ,, don't bring them back.

One week & I'm still having lots of problems on the 2nd solo of "Comfortably Numb".
Meanwhile also trying the first solo on "November Rain" -by Guns n Roses. Its not that fast but the bends on it are a bit difficult to make them sound exact. The 2nd one on it is impossible for me.

Thanks, but I am not very happy with it. I am finding the transitioning from the 15th fret bend to the three strings on the 14th fret to be tricky, probably practice will fix that.

The second solo is pretty long, I don't think I can play it exactly as it is and perhaps I will have to improvise a lot. You will need to have a good memory and patience but it will be worth it in the end.

GnR solos are pretty easy actuallly but the bends can be pretty tricky in any song. I can do full half bends but full bends are very stressful on my fingers (I use 10-54 gauge steel strings).

Producing music. Like what people do to make movie soundtracks, etc. Its called music direction in bollywood.

Basically it means you use a studio setup to make music. However, you can also use DAWs to make studio quality soundtracks at home. Some DAWS are LMMS, Ableton Live and FL Studio. LMMS is free and relatively easier to use

Could explain more, but on phone now.

I tried using Reaper.
With LMMS, can I add effects on the guitar (distortion, reverb .. all those ?). Basically I want to plug the guitar into the pc
There's a slight delay though with the guitar now on Reaper. May be I need Asio drivers.

Yes, but I don't think it will be very polished. Because effectively you would be recording clean and then adding effects over it. But it is best suited for creating MIDI based soundtracks.

If you want to record guitar, its better if you get something like Line 6 POD Studio USB recording interface. Couple this with POD Farm and you will virtually never run out of effects, amp cabinets, ,amp models or stompboxes.

The delay you speak of is because the audio drivers that you use for recording are not very efficient for recording in realtime because of some inefficient AD conversion algorithm. Yes, ASIO would resolve the lag, but it is licensed by Steinberg. There is a free but experimental alternative at ASIO4ALL - Universal ASIO Driver but I haven't tried it yet. This should effectively remove any lag.

As of now, the most efficient method would be to use the POD Studio I mentioned above.

Edit : The ASIO driver available on asio4all needs to be compiled with Audacity in order to be used. There is no workaround that I know of. Also, I am not sure if there are any DAWs that support it.

No, I don't want to record anything. Not playing clean either, I only want to be able to play guitar & simulate amp as I play using (some VST plugin may be ?).
I already have RP255 & it works fine but I want to get it out of the picture.

I meant Asio4All drivers only. they worked fine before on windows XP though I don't remember setting them up. Had tried Kristal & Amplitube trials. I'll see more how Reaper goes today when I get home.

The Line 6 Pod Studio has a audio out which you can attach to any amp. So, you set up your effects chain on your PC using POD Farm and get output on your amp.

Also, POD Farm is way better than most hardware multi effects pedals since you have an option for a huge library of effects and amp models. Many professionals use it as well.

I saw the Line 6 Pod & it sure looks nice. But I was not planning to buy anything at the moment so may be someday in future.

I tried Free Amp by fretted synth plugin in Reaper yesterday & I can get a good distortion with the default drivers but with some latency. The Asio4All drivers are a real problem in Windows 7, so no success so far.

Have you recorded anything in Reaper? I have a lot about it. Even people from the Ultimate-Guitar forum recommend it.

Check this video about the Line 6 POD Studio GX. It comes with Ableton Live, which is one of the best DAWs.

The GX is available from Bajaao for around 6k. I think I till buy it next month.

Yeah, I tried recording on Reaper just for fun sometime back on Windows XP. It was easy to use / record for the basics + had tons of features I had no idea about. With all the free Amp Vst plugins it was real good. If I remember, it records in .wav format.

The metal riff sounds cool. I never got into playing metal. But now I'm looking at some Youtube lessons.
Take a try at the song "Metallingus" by Alter Bridge. I been playing it a bit, It should be easy for you.

I am the master of my Fate.
couple of questions on acoustic guitar.
Q1. Which oil/cleaner u use for fretboard cleaning/polishing?
Q2. How much slack do I have to leave while changing strings?
Q3. How much thick (mm) pick u use?
