Ahmm.. as the petrol rates are so high, so we decided to take a diesel car.
Sunny diesel is the worst in its performance in its class. So,the clash is between
Hyundai Verna Fluidic 1.6 VGT CRDi (ABS model)
Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI Ambition (ABS model)

I personally like the build quality and interior of skoda, the car feels so rich specially rear A/C Vents are awesome. The verna is also good, best exterior in its class, but that compulsorily crappy cd player and speakers sucks.

Who told you that sunny diesel performance is not good.
Verna is amazing car, but you have to wait for that I guess as my frend booked one in november and got the deliver a couple of weeks back.
Rather going for Rapid go for Sunny, even you can have a look at Vento.
And if you wish to buy petrol there in offer going on Linea and I think there also some offer going on in new fiesta petrol

Blue Ripazah

THE CHOSEN ONE
Vern is the best option available afaik i know rapid is having WV engine so you better go.for vento diesel ibstead of rapid ...but verna is the.best

Try Ford Fiesta Classic SXi 1.4 TDCi. It has got one of the best driveable diesel engine and comes loaded with ABS with EBD, Dual Airbags and other safety features which you cannot get for On-road price of around 9.25 L. It gives good mileage of around 16-17 in city and 19+ on highways depending on the driving style. But it has not got the vast space of Nissan Sunny. Also you will love the way this car handles.
Gone are the days of Ikon and Escort when Ford was very expensive to maintain. Today, Ford cars are almost 80% localised which significantly reduces the maintenance cost.
Just make sure that Service Centre in your locality is good.

I don't want to buy some old model car for some less money. I know how poor is ford service in my locality.
I HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN SKODA AMBITION AND HYUNDAI VERNA CRDi 1.6

go for verna.. you will get decent after sales service..
as for skoda; drive both and decide but my choice would be verna..

if you can wait a few months ...and are not hell bent on getting a sedan .... wait for Ford EcoSport. The top diesel model is supposed to be just under 10L on road !

^^Trying a just released car is always risky. True you may have the exclusiveness, but also you have to cope with all the faults/niggles in the car. The first versions of almost every car has always had some problems which is sorted out in the subsequent versions.

I you have to opt between hyundai Verna and Skoda Rapid, blindly choose Verna. Skoda is pathetic in ASS. They will make you cry your eyes out. My friend bought a Fabia and he is regretting the moment. Plus, Verna is a well established car and hyundai's ASS is next best to Maruti's.

Violent serenity.
Another Verna supporter. That car can go fast! The City is a terrific choice too but the FE is a deal breaker. Trust me, if you are going to use the car for daily use, dont get the City (unless you are rich and this is just a secondary car). I drive an OHC (old City. ZX 10th ann. model). Its FE makes me cry. As i stay out and roam a lot during the day, i use up petrol worth 500 bucks everyday! Its expensive!

There is so much waiting to buy a verna but Rapid is available in a month or so.
Tell me the reasons why not to buy Rapid? Basically I like the overall build quality and interior of rapid is more alluring than verna.

First and formost, the pathetic ASS of Skoda. You need to be one lucky guy to have a good Service Centre nearby. Next its little costly maintain.
If you are not bothered about this, then there is no major fault in Rapid.
Plus, its better in looks than Verna IMO.

There is a skoda service centre in my town.
What is the approx total annual maintenance charges of verna and rapid (diesel)?

^^No one can answer this except the owners of the respective cars(which I am not). Maintenance of Skoda mainly goes up because their spare parts are expensive and they tend to replace the parts even if there is a small niggle which could easily be repaired. Similar practice is not followed by Hyundai and there spares are cheaper because of more localisation which results in low cost of ownership.

But I guess there is quite a long booking period for Verna.
And did you had a look at Sunny and Vento in the showroom?
