Unless you're buying a <25k Android phone, don't bother about getting an update.

The main difference between O1 & Ace is camera specs: 3.2mp vs 5mp(with flash)

Thanks Pauldmps

Camera i really dnt care wat they offer.. Think O1 it is then ;)
any HTC models worth looking??

NainO

Believe Me or Not!!!
^^^ Currently none…
But maybe after 2-3 months we can expect Wildfire S.

I am not sure about Ace battery life. An iPhone 3Gs lasts 1.5 days with moderate use. Ace is a copy of that phone...

iPhone is more power efficient than any other android phone eg. HTC Desire lasts less than one day with moderate use.

Nice to know man, thanks. But is it easy to custom mod it? Im sure there is a risk of Brick-in ur phone right?

who cares. let others do it. let others test it & when they say everything is fine & fully stable, download it & use it in your mobile :p

yes chances of getting brick is always there even if you do everything correctly. after all updates from the manufacturers themselves have bricked mobiles many times, so using a custom rom the risk is always there but thankfully, most manufacturers acknowledge their warranty without going in depth to see if the mobile is modded. also dead mobiles don't speak  so until their technician digs up logs or memory dumps & analyses it (really time consuming), they prefer to simply repair it.

True true bigger screen= more battery drainage

the one who should care about it, doesn't listen & instead went the other way of using some low grade 1200-1350mah battery with their Ace & Fit & Pop. as a result, before the users can really explore their mobile, they start looking for a plug point or calculating how much time left to reach home & how long the mobile will last.

But honestly im still thinking of buyin O1
I mean its VFM full on. and will get ginger bread+

Gingerbread "may" come. its not a guarantee but XDA already have 2-3 working gingerbread for O1 (Alpha but as users told, works fine). i don't trust any of the manufacturers, not even HTC. also if you want Optimus One just cause it offers 2days+ battery life, you may do some R&D on Ace's battery life with custom roms. if battery can't be extended beyond 30hrs, with moderate use, skip it. with time the condition will simply deteriorate.

If i spend 20k i would think so many times before custom modding it.
with 11.5k i can be a bit free mind.
Jus my thoughts bt fully agreed all of u who have commented.
Thanks

hmmmmmmm, 11.5k is a small amount?

i'll have these 3 simple rules:
1. chance of getting mobile bricked is less.
2. can be unbricked somehow. at home only using softwares.
3. if it can't be unbricked by us or if the mobile is completely dead, customer care should offer good support.

any of these rules are not broken by the mobile, don't try to root it or play with it, whatever be its cost. these rules are made by me & for my own use. so mayn't suite you well. still sharing with everyone here

LG has confirmed Gingerbread update for the O1 but don't be surprised if they back-out later. For Ace, it is highly doubtful.

^ samsung people never update their phones....they updated galaxy s so late
and galaxy 3 is still running 2.1......ace's update doubtful

i'll prefer a modded & performance-battery optimized Froyo rom over a manufacturer released Ginga anyday. i really hate bloatwares & a modded roms perform much better than the updates (skin & themes removed).

seriously guys !! Samsung is doubtful bt think even LG cant guarantee anythin..

true.

bt can u tell me how n why is ace better than O1.

in stock state, Ace is lot better than O1. but once modded (& overclocked), O1 can take on Ace head on, provided you exclude the camera tests. even in photography, Ace isn't an Ace. its just a mediocre mobile camera. cause for 15k is high but it too got its limit.

iPhone is more power efficient than any other android phone eg. HTC Desire lasts less than one day with moderate use.

iphone have an integrated battery isn't? & for that price, if you offer a substandard item, peoples will laugh at it (& then accept it). even if its Apple.

i'll go for Optimus One over Ace anyday. still no dedicated thread in XDA. low battery life. but i really want a 3.5" screen. though 3.2" shouldn't be too small for me. also i don't need camera that much.

^^ Ace was launched just yesterday in the UK & hasn't been launched in the US until now. That explains the missing section in the XDA forums.

I think they launched the phone in India early. When the handset begin shipping here, GSMArena & Phonearena were busy writing previews there.

Let me clear a few things here regarding Android & battery life :)

This post is a bit off-topic, bear with me :)

It is true that no matter whatever Android mobile you use, given that it is in stock ROM, with normal usage, it wouldn't last more than a day, from morning till night, roughly 12hrs to be precise.

Then what about people who claim their Android Mobile lasts 2days-3days blah blah blah?
Well.... Provided that you switch off background data,GPS and other lesser used Radios and provided you are ready to sacrifice some bling bling widgets and live papers for the sake of extra juice, yes in these cases, it might even last 2-3 days. This applies to both 12k Android Phones and 30K Android Phones.

To put things into perspective, My Nokia 6600 on BL5C 1020mAh battery lasts a whole week whereas the 1400mAh battery on HTC Desire hardly lasts 20hrs on Desire Z ROM.

Now coming to Samsung support, Don't ever ever rely on Samsung Updates and buy a phone, Ask any Spica user about Samsung-Android Support. They simply release models one after the other and in most cases they aren't bothered with releasing patches and updates.

even Symbian or Bada will have problem offering 2days battery life if user turns on GPS or 3G or GPRS on the whole time.

live wallpaper should be disabled, until you are going to showoff your new Android.

This applies to both 12k Android Phones and 30K Android Phones.

not always & not for every Android mobile. some (like Optimus One) lasts more than a day under moderate use & on the other hand some (Desire, Ace i.e. big screen small battery) hardly last a day.

To put things into perspective, My Nokia 6600 on BL5C 1020mAh battery lasts a whole week whereas the 1400mAh battery on HTC Desire hardly lasts 20hrs on Desire Z ROM.

err, massive difference between H/W of both. but 1 week is impossible for any Android. even under standby.

It seems Samsung will only update their mid-range android phones once. If your phone ships with froyo then you will get Gingerbread...
So G5 and G3 users only get froyo as an update....:(

build quality is descent. or are you talking about the slim buttons?

Charger gives me problem like always

what problem?

Cant play HD games, some ppl say they can play nfs shift on o1 but i cant figure that out

i have not played Shift yet but overclocking really helps. setting up the SOC to clock at 750-760Mhz will offer a nice performance boost without affecting battery life or making the mobile hot.

Built quality i meant like home and back buttons in the grey pannel are a bit shakey.. i mean they dont feel well built

Charger problem is strange,, it was working fine since las few days bt now i have to hold the charger in a way so that it stays on charging, or else it stops quite frequently..strange !!

Can u tell me SAM how to overclock it ? do i need to root my o1

At least for Galaxy S i9000 with Gingerbread update 2.3.3:
if you go to office/work/college with a full battery in the morning, you can easily expect to be left with 30-50% battery with you exactly 12-14 hours later with moderate usage.

With Froyo, the battery was barely half this much.

For your budget, I would say go for a LG Optimus One P500 around 10.5 and save the remaining 4.5k and/or buy a 16gb microsd for around 1k. Then upgrade to a better phone after 6-9 months when the price becomes cheaper, 1 yr tops!

I have NFS Shift on the O1... the 39MB version of the game... Can play it well without overclocking. Good framerate...

To overclock, you have to root your phone. Then install SetCPU.
