how can I detect my CPU clogging because of large number of probably unnecessary and harmful processes running in the background. Also how can one optimise Memory usage that results in system slowdown and non-response.

I want to start a couple of dos exe at the time of boot up of operating system(win 2k). I want to start them in background at system start up : ) Can ne one help me out with this ?
