today some dealers in chandni qouted me the price of amd x2 4200 as rs. 5000 and some quoted rs. 5500...i was really surprised because everywhere else i found out it was rs. 6900 somewhere while some places it was 7900...thats really strange...the guy like vedant infotech, marc infotech are quoting the prices like 5000 and 5500...are these places reliable??? and can there be this kind of price difference??

These prices can be true.AMD has slashed prices.
Although you would like to keep this in mind,If you are in the market for X2 CPU,look out for 3600+ or 4000+ ,these are Brisbane core CPUs [aka 65nm silicon from AMD] they clock like mad out of the box :D
Hint - there are 2 models of 3600+ , one is Windsor and other is Brisbane.

3600 Windsor - 128 x 2 Kb L2 Cache, 2.0GHz
3600 Brisbane - 512 x 2 Kb L2 Cache , 1.9GHz

Hope that helps you ;)

@darklord
i just have a doubt. Does this new X2 has only 2x256kb L2?? My older X2 939 Manchester 90nm has 2x512KB L2.
And does this new X2 4200+ outperforms the older Manchester 4200+?? My CPU is cool[max 62c] but dun go beyond 2.8

man i m talking abt x2 4200+ socket am2 and this is available dude!

If prices have come down then why not to go for AMD X2 beyond 4200+. I don't know even what are their models beyond that may be 4500+ 4800+ etc.

I think AMD X2 4200 is some what near to Core 2 Duo E6300. If you are getting this for rs 5000 what else you want. intel sucks now because they are mariginally better now than AMD but core 2 duo costs more than 9000. Difference of 4000 ??? just for mariginal performance edge is not justified ???

ur right on the button my frend...one thing is that there are a few ppl who crib about the sites like tomsharware and anandtech comparing two machines and deciding which is faster ....the testing method comprises of the latest motherboards, graphics card,cabinet...etc...thus they conclude their tests....and here in india because of that high price difference we are about 6 months behind in pc using...coz here most of the buyers would go for either c2d E6300 or E6400 but over there ppl thing these processors as budget gaming processors...so there lies a difference in perception...
wt my point is that how much performance are you getting for the price...if processor A takes 5 seconds more than processor B or for the sake even 15 seconds...wt difference does it make to a normal user...so in my opinion these tests are for absolute professionals (gamers..designers..etc)...but i m also not completely disregarding these tests for a normal user coz they are helpful to a certain extent..

otherthan overclocking what deiff? and how much diff. We are not overclocking enthuast. I do not think it is fare to compare everything on OC standards.

Price Vs Performance should be standard to decide best buys, like Digit performs its tests. I think no fun buying Intel's C2D if they are adamant of not reducing price. Price diff of 4000 with X2 is not acceptable.

Moreover in AMD platform, better motherboards are available. The first HDMI mother boards on AMD 690G chip are available, which are far superior than 975 & 965. This AMD 690G has been integrated with ATI X1250 onboard graphics. There is huge diff in graphics. ATI's R200 & R300 & Nvidia 6100 & 6150 are proving to be superior to Intels" GMA 3000, then what would be competition with ATI X1250.

Thus it makes sense to go for AMD based desktop or Laptop.

975X is not a chipset with onboard grafix,so i would compare it with RS690 ;)

As far as my opinion goes, both are good,it just depends on the users requirements, which platform is suitable for him, thats it ;)

Not necessarily. ;) the overclockability of a particular CPU depends on a lot of things other than the Model ;)
