I have never understood what makes Nokia tick with the Indian population and the world as a whole .please don't turn this into a fight . i am not a fanboy and i have phones from all brands .

Given that nokia has the highest profit margins among phones except apple of course ( i think Iphone 3G margins are lesser ) i want to knw you guys opt for nokia over others
WHY NOKIA ??

I mean you get a wide variety of choices with millions of handsets . But then the build quality for a phone costing 15k-20k is very bad . The chrome paint wears off , the body creaks . I understand tht chrome wears off on every mobile but then phones costing 30k shud have something better ( talking abt N95 which my better half bought ).

I love the N82 but then its price and its build material leave something to be desired . Your opinions on this . Plz no fighting

Well,

If you want to buy a mobile, which satisfies the features you require, then you'll definitely buy it. Won't you?? Then who'll look at the company whether its SE or Nokia??

Well nokia earned its trust amongst indians right from the days of 3310/3315/1100 and all
its pretty popular amongst indian where phone gettin drenched in rain is an everyday issue. This is one dept where nokia stands apart....durability and long lastin under harsh conditions.......

Nokia does offer a lot of features in various price ranges...It is ideal for consumers who belong 2 every bracket..

i had a Nokia 3310..It was such a sturdy set...I was having Paani Puri and the mobile slipped into the water container 4m my pocket...I was amazed when it still kept on working after a little bit of drying it..So NOKIA rocks...

If one wants a mobile than it shud b either a Nokia or a SE...Only Nokia and SE have a real brand value...The phones from these brands (NOKIA/SE) have a gud resale value also as compared 2 others.

LG/Samsung 's battery backup sucks big time...And I don't find MOTO's mobiles 2 have a great GUI...Its 2 boring 2 use them..

My preference is NOKIA at the present moment but keeps on swinging between NOKIA/SE acc. to the phone models that r launched...

Imagine you are a kisaan(farmer) who has to *urgently* hit the mountain with your lotaa(lotaa?) in the middle of a dark and windy pitch-black night! You have searched for some light everywhere but you *just* can't find it, your friend has it in the form of some lantern but you *can't* call him because you *don't* have a phone. Ooh! bad situation becoming worse!

Now imagine you have bought yourself a brand new and cheap Nokia 1200 eh?, aah.! You *got* the light and you *got* the phone, and you *call* your friend to discuss the next season's rain while doing the deed ;D

Show me another phone that has a torch built into it. Kisaan Phone zindabad!

NOKIA - For those moments when life needs you.

Well in the last 5 years I've gone through 6 phone, of which 5 were Nokia and only 1 SE. But I never remember buying any of my phones because they belonged to a particular brand. It was always features and performance that mattered more. The phones always fulfilled my needs (whatever they were at the time of buying) at the same time fell under the budget allocated to me by my parents. That was enough for me to buy them. So in my case the phones being Nokia can be called a coincidence, not a planned decision. :)

Nokia phones come with many features, are cheap, widely available,VFM(Look very ugly though).I guess that is why they are found even with Rikshaw walas:D

Nokia is highly customisable. I guess it improved with their forum nokia initiative. Nokia theme creator software was someting I really liked. I have used Nokia 3310, 3410, 7610, Samsung C100, X460, and HTC Touch (my current model). All the other models I've listed above had some irritants or the other - incoming sms on C100 would beep continuously, there was no beep once option; X460 solved the sms problem but had a new bug, I could not assign ringtones that I downloaded to my handset to caller groups or contacts, funny enough I could only assign the factory tones. Tones I downloaded to the set could be assigned to default ringtone only???!!!, and HTC Touch crawls like a snail and costs a bomb, poor battery backup - as bad as my former two year old Nokia 7610.

If you ask me which phone I'll buy next, I'll buy a Nokia. I still have my 3410 (four years old or more) and 7610 (two years old) in working condition.

To make a long story short
Nokia = Value for money

Nokia does offer a lot of features in various price ranges...It is ideal for consumers who belong 2 every bracket..---- AGREED . THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING. BESIDES ITS WIDELY AVAILABLE

i had a Nokia 3310..It was such a sturdy set...I was having Paani Puri and the mobile slipped into the water container 4m my pocket...I was amazed when it still kept on working after a little bit of drying it..So NOKIA rocks... --- AGREED . ITS THE SAME FOR A B/W PHONE FROM ANY OTHER BRAND . TESTED WITH SIEMENS & MOTO .. BUT TRY DOING THAT WITH UR COLOUR MOBILE AND IT WUD BE DEAD FOR SURE . OR ATLEAST WILL COST U A BOMB TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. BUT WONT AGREE WITH DURABILITY THEORY OR THE WATER TEST FUNDA

If one wants a mobile than it shud b either a Nokia or a SE...Only Nokia and SE have a real brand value...The phones from these brands (NOKIA/SE) have a gud resale value also as compared 2 others.
---1.RESALE OKAY . 2. But u never have phones from Nokia like LG Chocolate , Moto --Razr , Rokr E8 , that paper display phone . Samsung --Metal series , Guru mobile ,slider phones ,C100 . SE -- all K series , W series . Speaker phones from Nokia in low-medium end were the only firsts that i can think of . Nokia came into the true music scene very late . Also its cameras were only to boast as stats until 2 years ago .

LG/Samsung 's battery backup sucks big time...And I don't find MOTO's mobiles 2 have a great GUI...Its 2 boring 2 use them.. --- MOTO UI AGREED . LG/SAMSUNG MAY BE, NOT SURE .

I mean all of them make good phones but given a choice between say a similar price/feature Samsung/ LG people chose Nokia even though it looks bad or feels plasticy.
VFM : how? nokia makes more bucks per phone than any other manufacturer .either they have a very good & cheap partner in china than their competitors or they are pricing it higher than others . either way it doesn't justify VFM tag IMO .

@@ Hitboxx :: That's the best thing that Nokia came up with for the Kisan .and the truck phone was also good .
This ad from Nokia was brilliant Its plot was something like : a father & son are going somewhere and they have a flat tyre, then some guy goes out in search for them and calls his home when he finds them . then his daughter says on the phone " can we have a nokia too? "

Imagine this to be my thesis or whatever u think but please give ur opinions .

as u guys can see nokia leads in india...

but please look more close.... most first time buyers and the low end spec ones are the nokia domain mainly...

when u go above 10k or even 8k the scales definitely tips... here nokia..sony...sam... all rules..... all have their piece of pie...

You working for some mobile company, I guess.

Gosh . I wish so . If anyone here is recruiting Wud like to be in their testing department . throwing phones at walls for testing & using new phones every month for free . Now that's life.

Let me make it more clear . B/W series is history & At 5000 -7000 Nokia has the widest range and NOKIA rules . I Cudn't agree more .But As one poster said , at ranges of 10k the balance tips . . I mean N70 is still popular when it was the worst phone from nokia except for maybe N95. N82 quality @ 20k is very bad . That Razr 2 phone @ 20k has better build & feel to it . May be not features . Looks is a personal choice .

So what i gather from the discussions is that about 60-70% from Nokia are those within 10k-12k about 20% are around 25k & rest are 30k & above .
