Too many to list and impossible to decide the order of preference. I like (but not limit my likes to) ballads with a twist. Two songs that come to mind are -
1. Ebony Eyes - an oooold song by The Everly Brothers. Here the young man is a soldier who can't get leave to get married, so he sent for his girl and waits eagerly at the airport. After a long delay, it was announced that the flight had crashed. The lyrics are simple but beautiful; the concluding verse:
If I ever get to heaven, I'll bet
The first angel I recognise
She'll smile at me, and I'll know she will be
My beautiful ebony eyes.
2. Long Black Limousine - another old one by Elvis Presley. A small-town boy leaves home and his girl to taste city life. He promises to come back riding "in a fancy car for all the town to see". He led a fast life in the city and died in a drag race after a party. His rich city friends brought his body to his home town. He was indeed coming home in a fancy car - a long black limousine, a hearse.
