Warframe
my 1 tb hard disk crashed yesterday, thanks to me.
i accidentally hit the cabinet with my foot, while it was working.
now windows wont boot, or repair and gives 0x00000e9 (or something, might be 9e also, wont try again, as i fear for my data)
booted up via falcon4 ubcd, got into mini-XP
it didnt read any partitions
rebooted again, this time into mini-linux
ran gparted.
this showed the entire hdd(all 3 prim. part.) as having error
i selected "info" from context,
told me it was bad sectors,
it told me to run chkdsk /F, the regular stuff.
my new system does not support ide/ata ribbon cable,
so i installed ubuntu 11.04 on my old system, as i had an old ribbon type 160 gb hdd
****************************************************************************
EDIT :
forget waht i said about networking
net is up and running (damn me if i know why)
in the time i was typing the above stuff out on my mobile, the net started up as if nothing was wrong, thats crazy.
***************************************************
DOUBLE EDIT :
seems like the connection goes off and on on its whim.
one moment, it'll work, the other, it'll just shut down.
very annoying
****************************
TRIPLE EDIT :
it was a cable fault, moved it a few centimeters and voila! we have connectivity!
anyway, to the real stufff :
the fate of the 1 tb hdd.
its just 1-1.5 yrs old, working fine, except for the currnet situation.
i've heard that some kinds of bad sectors can be recovered from, but i'm planning to convert htis disk to a storage one permanently, as soon as i get a rplacemnt.
so, the question now are :
1. how do i get into windows, and get my data back?
2. how do i get to a command line?
3. will the disk be eligible for rma? (provided i dont tell them that i was the one who did the kicking?)
also, please move thread to hardware sectionn
is there anybody OUT THERE (as in the pink floyd song)???
i got an idea :
i can get back the data by installing ntfs-progs and ntfs-3g, and then mounting and removing the data.
but im not sure how well the hdd will hold up.
need some ideas here, folks.

i've put the right stuff in the right places (i know this, right?) and the connection even connects, but the net wont work
if i try to ping ANYTHING, even the modem, it says "destination host unreachabe"
ther damn icon even changes to a connected one.
