1. ipoldlinux and rockbox both suck in interface and they do that terribly (sucking i mean)

2. the decision of a smaller sized player or bigger capacity is basically on 1s need and cant be based on what some 1 else says -

the factors that make these decisions are:

a. cost
b. whether u travel a lot
c. whether u have a huge music/video library
d. whether u want a portable hdd

now see what fits the bill and go for it; the brand is again a question of personal choice; when it comes to features and value for money iPods are the last thing to look at (the only vfm they have is the "cool" quotient-the chicks totally dig an iPod)

for features there is a huge range of products out of which creative & sony are amongst the top

whats wrong in buying Zune?indiatimes was selling the loder version1 Zune 30gb at around 7-8k iirc with one year travelers warranty(I wonder what that means).I have a Zune and I am more than satisfied.

ANd FYI Cowon has already started selling their PMP's in India officially, they are pretty damn costly though. You should check them out too.

iPods don't have FM tuner which sucks IMO.Saturday nights on 98.3 just rock.

I Don't use linux on my iPod to listen to music .

Lets say just to view some text files in the bathroom in the middle of the examination ;)

Good chote nawab, we used to record answers in mp3 format in mp3 players & listen to them during exams saying "Sir, we are listening to bhajan/FM/Himesh reshamiya/" :D

PSP audio quality better than iPod!!!........ehmm.....No comments....

That is my personal opinion, and on the forums. you are expected to respect everyones :)

Anyway, the PSP does have better audio quality than the iPod, most people fail to realise it because it is rather low on volume. Also, sadly most people equate audio quality to how thumping the Bass is and how loud something can get. They must learn that audio quality is all about how true to the original sound something is !

Yes video in PSP is miles miles ahead of any PMP and yes you cant sort by artist or album, but you can create playlists. On the other hand in iPod you cant create folders, you can only create playlists, for me that was irritating. Plus you have a li-ion battery that isnt so easy to replace. Cant charge via normal charger (the original one by apple costs 3500!!! and the chinses one would not necessarily work.) You have to delibrately use that stupid itunes to share music, not to forget the pathatic battry life while playing video and.....blah..blah.. blah....what I mean is there are both aspects in every hardware. Apart from all this I still use only iPod for music simply because of it shear music quality. PSP on the other hand has a decent audio quality and LOADS N LOADS of features, if I start listing things you can do with a PSP you would be amazed (thanks to the god of hackers who have ripped apart the PSP hardware/software to make it a truly verstile PMP).....

I said OTG playlists, which you cannot create on a PSP, which happens to be a feature I find essential.

Also, you say you can sort by artist and album.... let's say you want to listen to a audioslave song but don;t know which album it is in, and the only way to look at all the audioslave songs at once would be to have all your audioslave songs in one folder, then you can't have an album listing for audislave coz you would need separate folders for those. That IMO sucks.

And i do own a psp, so no point trying to tell me that you can. And yes i have hacked it and i have looked and looked for brew that will give me better music organisation features but haven't been successful.... I completely agree that the PSP is indeed a multi-faceted device that has given me hours and hours of modding fun.... but this discussion is purely about music.

btw, its spelled "sheer". ;)

sam9s the iPod Classic does have good battery life. CNET managed 45 hours of audio playback and nearly 9 hours of video playback on the 80gb model under realistic conditions.

^^ 45 hours? That calls for another Holy Shi*

Sam9s... I was actually thinking of seeing how much a zen 8 gb can be had for..... If it close to 8-9k, i will totally go for that.

and about the "shear" thing, that was a general clarification. Most people don't know the difference between sheer and shear. No hard feelings.

Regarding my previous post about iPod Classic 80gb battery life, i think there must be something wrong with the CNET figures because Apple site states it as 30 hours for audio and 5 hours for video. Still i think it qualifies as good. Sam9s you can eat that hat of yours now.

Though I don't think 45 hours is right, iPods have been known to give better battery backup than claimed by Apple. :)

The battery life is improved in the newer version of iPod. Plus it also depends on the screen brightness, format/resolution/fps of the video played back. Most online figures are with default brightness. You must have set your brightness on max level.

Well, very major update..... kinda reckless, but :

I BOUGHT THE ZEN!! woot!!!!!

I got it for an incredible 7.5k for the 8gig version at gandhi bazaar. I can't say anything yet about audio quality as i've just returned and have to chrg it fot 4 hours.

First impressions : I was kinda worried that the buttons would be as cheap as everyone said they were, but they are great, and really easy to use. The screen is gorgeous. The front smudges easily but scratches are not to be found and it doesn't look like it will scratch anytime soon.

Will post an update regding sound quality 2moro and expect a full review soon.

Glad I am not one of the 10-kajillion other iPod users!

Well actually the iPod does come with a brightness adjustment. I've read about it on CNET review. I've even read that when the 5.5G iPod came which had a brighter display, its brightness at default level was equal to the brightness of the 5G at max level. The videos do affect the battery life. High resolution/bitrate files require more processing power and hence consume more battery.

ring_wraith congrats! I don't believe it that you got the 8gb version for only 7.5k. How much was the 4gb version?

yahi to hai gandhi bazaar ka kamaal!

The 4gig version was not available in any of the shops I checked, but i'm guessing you can easily get it for around 6k.

people are actually confused about what rap actually is its not supposed to be main stream music it is as the name is Rhythm and Poetry not music ;) it has a huge acceptance because of its hardcore/rebellious/gangster image and there by sells more than norah joans
