Okay, heres what i mean.

Using the same earphone , not the bundled ones, the order of sound quality is :

iriver>cowon=zen=zune>iPod

every review I have read on the iPod says that it's audio quality is decent and definetly not best of the best. Whereas every iRiver review I have read says it's the best on the market....

iPod's audio quality being average is a well known one... cowon, archos and creative win in this... but for overall integration no one can still beat ipod.. zune is trying hard...

are you sure? I have read several reviews, everyone including cnet say it sounds fantastic.

Apart from a few websites well known for their hatred for all things Apple, I have never read a review which said that the iPod's sound quality was average. Almost unequivocally, every reviewer has termed it as having excellent sound quality.

I haven't, however, ever used any music player, neither am I an audiophile, so I can't comment on it myself. :)

What I can comment on is the user interface. Nothing beats the user interface of the iPod.

Though you are correct, there are two things you are overlooking:
1. Not everyone can, or wants to, afford Sennheiser earphones; and
2. When a person is out to buy an MP3 player, it is not generally possible to use each one with your own earphones first and compare them before buying one. So you kinda have to base your decision on those reviews. :)

Cnet, probably the king of reviews, said that the iPod sound quality is "middle of the road" while the zen's was fantastic.

Is Creative Zen available in India? Will we also get the lateste generation of iPod in India? Why is iPod so expensive here in India as compare to US? Is it coz of VAT etc? Most of the stores I checked here at my place have the older generation of iPods!

You'll get the latest generation of iPods in India. As for the expensiveness, well, there isn't much you can do about that. :(

Well I'm sure it's not available in Hyderabad. I think it maybe available in other cities like Bangalore, Delhi etc. Apart from the Apple website any other place where I can get info about the latest generation iPod and how it's better than the previous generations. Anybody here has the new iPod Nano which has video? How big is the screen?

j/k i don't mind. The new nano has a 2 screen btw. Supposed to be the sharpest screen ever on an iPod.

There you have it. I really don't care much for cover flow or the prettier UI. I actually prefer the old one coz it's faster and more text is accomadated in one screen,and I don't have to bother about getting every damn album's cover art.

And if I do get a 5.5G one, it will be white. So i don't think scratches are too much of a problem there..... at least on the front, and i guess i'll just get some kind of a screen guard for th back and the screen.

Please suggest which one. Or even better, suggest an alternative. I have already considered the zen [buttons are cheap] zen vison w [way too bulky] and zen vision [too bulky].

whats the price you have been offered for the PMP ? first tell that.

and as always, more space is good. if you install RockBox, you can even use it as a portable HDD and play gba games and run some other small apps made for rockbox. iPod linux is another attractive option.

Why can't i get the old ipod video 30 gig for the same price as a new nano 8 gig?

No, as I've already asked. where can I find a zen in Bangalore?
