burned

First I burned a 3.7GB iso file (opensuse) @ 4x. It burned @9mb/sec !!! next a made a general Data dvd @4x . It burned at a measly 1-2mb/sec :( Anybody knows why? Is it a good idea to create an iso first. I am too cheap to waste DVD's to test this myself. Thanks

well in the august issue of digit, the dvd which was provided had the ISO-image of suse-linux. The iso image size is 700mb while that of the the linux if burned onto a disc would be 1.3gb. Can anyone tell me how such ISO-images with commpresed data can be made.
