Another great suggestion from Jas.
thegeek, go with the suggestion given by Jas. The kind of applications you've mentioned, are heavily multithreaded and more the number of CPU cores, more they will run smoother and faster. Core i5 is a dual core processor and it is having HT enabled hence having 2 extra logical core, but cannot give the performance of a true Quad core processor.\
Phenom II X6 1055 is a 6 core processors and actually exactly built for highly multithreaded applications.

na na na...uve got it wrong...i5 7xx series processors are quad cored, not dual...some i5 6xx series are dual cored with HT...i5 750 is a TRUE quad cored processor

AMD is such a crap, it only knows how to market their products properly, not how to build them, intel has got have have something in it that its 4 cored processor beats the 6 cored processor of amd
*www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/147?vs=109
its when you see the benchmarks, you'll realize what intel is built of (im not a intel fanboy, benchmark speaks for itself)
intel i5 760 can be overclocked to 3.6-4.0GHz (on air cooling !), use GOOGLE.COM it's free

people spend a fortune on any new systems they buy, sometimes its their dream machine, never post anything without researching, your advice can put someone's money at waste...lol, you have 1413 posts! i hope they were not like this one!

Digit is a good magazine, im even going to buy its this month issue. Dont simply spoil its online reputation on forums, if you have no idea what you're posting, just dont do it, instead of wasting other's time...

atleast care to read my first post, before blurting out a random 'AMD' config

Mind your language buddy.
Ya I haven't seen your mention about Core i5 760,and you are right about it, don't just assume that you are only the knowledgeable person by throwing some links.
I made a mistake by overlooking your mention of 7XX series and thought you are talking about 5XX series, but don't just start to shout like an idiot. A simple pointer would have been well enough for me to correct my statement. In this forum, we are not here to ask anybody to post or not to post and every day we learn. But looking at your language its like you simply don't know how to talk in a forum.
Learn this 1st and then show post something here.

And for your info, the AMD 6 core is still a better solution even if you are going for Core i5 760.

@ Cilius and Jaskanwar Singh: Ignore thegeek, he creates nuisance on chip forums as well and simply trolls around, making it as a 4 page query with page containing 15 posts each. The chap doesn't want to do a bios update and concluded that "h55 is usually meant for i3 and i5 6xx series", creating nuisance on other people's query thread and here like a lamer he talks jibberish. Don't feed 12 year old trolls, its their mating season

H55's s2h needs F6 bios atleast to make i5 760 running and h55's ud2h needs f9. I am sure its the same case for other boards viz. released before i5 760 was released. Nothing new, p35 and x38 chipsets needed a bios update to use wolfdale c2ds properly- same happened with AMD. I explained to "thegeek" in 2 different threads on chip, its rather stupid that he is doing the same here and wasting people's precious time.

As far as s2h is concerned, there's only 1.1 viz. in retail so most likely it has the factory bios. If ud2h has newer rev versions, maybe it would have newer bios. If not, flash the system with the new bios. Manual has clear instructions on it in simple english, you can't just go wrong unless you do something wrong.

@thegeek:
Many times people will post incorrect information here, but it is not on purpose. At least appreciate the fact, that Cilus took the time out to answer your questions (like he always does). You could have discretely mentioned that his dual/quad core information was incorrect. PERIOD. Why sing a whole song about digit magazine, post count, and other nonsensical documentation.

Regarding your original query: (see my responses in red)
1) Does the h55 mobo make a good combo with i5 760
Not for your case. You want to do heavy 3D rendering and gaming, the on board IGP will not suffice for this. You will have to mount an accelerator, better to get a native P55 here.
2) Corsair or G.skill - is any one of them particularly better or i should grab whichever is cheaper.
Get the cheaper one for the fastest speed. Both are good. Since you will not OC timings and DRAM voltages are of no use to you.
3) Are single 4gb ram modules available easily
Yes.
4) On what extra fans i will need for CM Elite 310 for better cooling
This chassis comes with options for 3 fans. The rear one is all ready mounted. You can keep front and side as intake. And preferably keep a high speed as exhaust on the rear.
5) Suggest the cheapest APC UPS that serves my purpose
This would depend on the GPU (if you do so) you dock. Though the one you mentioned in your original post -- the APC is good. Should be fine for you.

Behave.

thegeek-
I feel a pc for your kind of work will see heavy load for longer period of time and should have good components and cooling.
A good and inexpensive ATX motherboard is better than mATX for such machines i feel and no SATA ports will get blocked by big gfx cards too.

i5 760
ASUS P7P55D-E LX (True USB3.0 + SATA 6Gbps)
2x2GB Corsair 1600 Mhz
GTS 450 + VX 450 (if budget permits/stretches, GTX 460 1GB + VX550)
NZXT Gamma (though higher price than Elite 310, more VFM i feel)

Choice of UPS will depend on overall power draw and backup time required- try to get a 800VA one

I didnt understand it asigh. I dont need the onboard IGP, ill be using a dedicated GPU. What does accelerator mean, can u please broaden the whole point ?

@ pegasus
-I dont have budget for a ASUS P7P55D-E LX, GTX 460 (cant spend more than 5000 on the mobo and 8000 for GPU, so the only choices for mobo are between H55-UD2H and P55-UD2). The layout of p55-ud2 is better than h55m-ud2h, but the h55 performs better in image editing than p55, so what do u say...

-Ill later buy an ASUS U3S6 Expandable Card when ill really feel the need of a usb 3 and sata iii

- Nzxt gamma is not available in Delhi, need a cabinet under 2500k that comes with atleast two fans. ( I didnt like the design of Elite 310, also ill have to buy an additional 120 mm fan (@ 250INR if i buy it )

I prefer ATX motherboards for big gaming/rendering rigs unless a mATX one is a benefit/requirement specifically.
I have seen people repent buying matx when wanting to add something more later as good gfx cards are usually dual slot and block slots/ports.

A very inexpensive ATX mobo will be the ASUS P7H55. :)
But that is something i typically pair with an i3 530/i5 650 for entry-level gaming rig or something with no OCing preferably- doesn't mean others cannot use it with something else.
A good beefy processor deserves a good, beefy motherboard too imho.
I was initially going to suggest the ASUS P7P55D-E for an i5 760, taking into consideration that you mentioned good amount of OCing in one of your later posts.
But budget restriction and your initial post of no OC made me reconsider.

i only needed input on this-

keep your foolish advices to yourself!!
if you are here to create such nuisance better leave!
see this (the rendering, image editing test for which you are buying) and then post your useless comments!
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.80 GHz Review - Page 8/13 | techPowerUp

and i wont get anything by suggesting you what is better for you. i was from mobile when i posted this config and its difficult to post a huge message.
also if you are considering reputation of digit, what reputation you are making by posting such comments.

Good reply there; but still chill. ;) We all know who is/was correct.

Secondly, with more applications getting more multi-thread optimized, X6 will only get faster. :p But the OP wants a configuration with Core i5-750, so lets get ahead with it.

Just read this link, here they have tested the Corsair VX450W and the max. power it delivers is 570W, and also it comes with, protections: Over voltage, under voltage, over current, over power, and short-circuit.
Corsair VX450W Power Supply Review | Hardware Secrets

I was going for APC 650VA for the sole purpose of surge protection. I used an online calculator to calculate its max. output, and its somewhere around 450W, which in a way bottlenecks my PSU, and i cant afford the 800VA version. I also read that a whining sound is produced when more than 80% of max load of the UPS is used which can have an issue with either of the components if used for an extended period.

-The last query from this thread of mine is that I need you people to suggest me an UPS whose quality and durability is somewhat equivalent to APCs, but with a lower price.
- With the price difference, should i switch to GA-P55-US3L ?
(are the RAID and other features in it useless for me, should I stick to H55-UD2H, dont know why I feel H55 lacks something which i could need in future-i dont mean USB3, SATA III)
