Upgrade path of 15k

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')

Ans: Gaming in medium settings, a.k.a casual gaming.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.

Ans:15-16.5k (Upper limit is 16.5k nothing more please )

3. Planning to overclock?

Ans: Nope..

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?

Ans: Win 7 X64.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?

Ans: 250GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.

Ans: I have a monitor with 1600x900 resolution.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?

Ans: Monitor, Optical Drive, Hard Drive, Speakers, Keyboard, Mouse.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?

Ans: This month.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?

Ans: I'll assemble it.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?

Ans: Locally is fine , open to buying from flipkart and smc.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?

Ans: I don't need AMD APU. I really need a discrete graphics card if it is possible in this budget. No need of a new hard disk and the aforementioned components in number 7. I plan to use it for casual to mid gaming, not at high settings :)

^^At this price point the AMD counterpart is AMD Athlon II 260.

See this bench and you'll get an idea which one to go for.

I got that but won't the APU's perform better than the processors???? BTW it's good that he didn't ask for Hard Disk in this budget :p

Nothing like that. APUs are targeted for value segment where you don't need to add a dedicated GPU. They are good for light gaming and HTPC settings. But if only the processing power is considered, the most powerful APU, A8-3870K is just roughly equal to Phenom II 955, the later is margibally better.

So if you can get a standard CPU and powerful GPU, it'll provide better gaming experience.

So guys should I go for RiGOD's suggestion or is there something better? I can save that 1K from the case for some other component like a better GPU or processor.

^^ Do you have any updates of the price here?

BTW few months back you were asking for a new rig under 30k.
