Canonical today hoped to preempt all comers today with news of Ubuntu Mobile. Its first Linux variant aimed at handhelds, the software is tailored for the Mobile Internet Devices expected to launch in spring based on Intel's Silverthorne technology and is designed to recognize basic iPhone-like gestures such as swiping to scroll through menus and websites. A scrolling visual front end based on Flash or Clutter replaces the traditional Ubuntu desktop and is designed to be used solely with fingers, including an on-screen keyboard.

Dude, do you want to start another flame war here or should we remind you of the succesful Moto cell phones running linux??

Linux is scalable from the smallest device to the biggest one's regardless of architecture! This is one that no other OS can do!

hey no OS wars just said that as a reply to back metal's suggestion of the mobile version not being like the desktop version, thats all :)

^^you never heard me right. All I said was that the Ubuntu Mobile will be very user friendly like its desktop cousin, and extremely customisable, but it will have an ugly UI, and that will be until Infra_Red_Dude comes up with iPhone4Lin

u had ur UI reason i had my repository reason, the point that both of us dont want it to be as its desktop cousin is common, the reasons are different :)

u had ur reason i had mine :)

repository systrm rocks, IMO. You can get thousands of mobile apps at the click of a button.

and this will come only preinstalled in phones. So the manufacturer will take care of all the software/codecs/drivers. End users don't go and install OSes on their mobiles. So the actual OS will be quite raw, ready to be customised by the manufacturer.

Motorola Phones do not run Ubuntu mobile. He was talking about Ubuntu Mobile.

So is Windows Vista (Desktop), Windows Server 2008 (Server), Windows CE (Consumer Device) Windows for embeded devices, Windows Mobile (Mobile Phones). Whats your point of comparision here?

No windows for PPC architecture but linux can run on PPC

No windows for Cell architecture but linux can.

Hope you stop bragging and implant these 2 into your brain.
