because even 3 year olds can operate it.
If he has some memmory loss, ask him to write down the things that youve said during the 'study' so that later he can refer to it if his memmory fails.I taught my grandma this way(to use cellphone).

First of all what are the things you want to teach him? ;)
Windows 7/8 or Linux does not matter. I guess the main use will be listening songs, watching movies, surfing the net, at some extent changing the wallpapers, screensavers. He is not going to tweak system settings or configuring anything. If OP wants to stick with Linux, just make a folder or shortcut in desktop to all movies songs. Tell him how to connect internet or make a script to auto connect. Then tell what is firefox, and how it works.

Gradually tell him what is email, facebook. And then make him a member of tdf :D..

you nailed it. What he mostly wants to do is listening to songs on the net and on the laptop , sending the occasional mail to relatives around , pay bills online and the works.

Well that would be easy.. Just dont go around teaching him everything, just teach him what he requires and ask him to make notes..:)
