Guys, my father is starting a play-school, so need to some buy some PCs (4-5). So i need a strictly "office" RIG.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Office purpose.

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Of course

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 15k (budget should be as low as possible, may be 13 or 14!)

4. Planning to overclock?
A: no

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A:XP (not 7 becoz i dont expect the office guys to be cool with 7)

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: min

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: 17/19 (suggestion)

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 7

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A:assembler

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: till dec (max, may be in early dec)

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A:not actually, but the system should run fine for say 5 yrs)

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A:no speakers, i guess a dedicated PSU will also be not needed, nor a branded cabinet.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A:gaya/patna, online also. but from my experience online always costs you more.

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: I'm thinking on atom based RIG, what do you guys say? The system should consume as less power as it can, and silent ;)

This is more future proof than the atom based rig you wanted.

Thnx.

What about going for 1 external dvd writer instead of buying 1 internal for each?
I'm confused b/w intel and AMD, coz although benchies show amd ahead in entry level procy's, personally i have found Intel to be good in real word tests.

oh wow...Xenforo!!!
^^ For office use it doesn't matter. What more important is expansion capability and power consumption. Avoid atom.

Thin clients won't get resell value, plus if ever i feel to upgrade systems, they won't allow na! Moreover i feel thin clients wont be able to fulfill all the needs. I mean no HDD :-o

So i have decided this-

Component Make Price
Processor AMD Athlon II x2 250 2700
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2 2500
RAM G-skill F3-10600CL9S-2GBNT 700
HDD WDC Green 500GB 1900
DVD WRITER No
Case + PSU iBall/Zebronics (with psu) 1000
Monitor Benq 18.5" G925HD LCD 4600
Keyboard & Mouse Logitech MK100 500
UPS Microtek 600VA 1200

Total 15100

Any more suggestions/comments techies ?

Do you absolutely need an 18.5 monitor for office use? The Acer H163WA which I suggested is 15.6 inch and enough for office purpose unless you want to game on it.

Actually, i m thinking, in .8 k diff i will get a more usable monitor, plus if ever i needed to sell it, it will have more "resell value", isn't it? (day by day, std size is increasing)

Also, if i had to compromise with the value, i could have taken the local brand monitors at a very low price. So, cost cutting with quality + future perspective is kept in mind while selecting.

^^Ya, actually I'm also thinking for it. but since the pcs are going to be at diff places (diff rooms), so connection would be a problem, isnt it ?

since the price difference is minimal going for 18.5 monitor makes sense also helps in working with excel workbooks as far as ups i think better off get a 800-1000va home ups cum inverter will give u decent backup times

Thnx, what about pure sine wave UPS' ? Of course they will be costly, any idea about the cost diff? And what diff is b/w these UPS' and inverter?

sorry buddy no idea about pure sine wave i think they r equivalent to online ups hence will be costly these r inverter + ups i.e u can run them in ups or inverter mode however runnning in ups mode reduces the backup time

Yes, external DVD sounds right. You can get the Buffalo one @1.6k from Letsbuy.com

Sorry for the bump guys, but the project was delayed so the systems need to be bought in a week or so from now. Can you guys update the config as per today with prices? I'm sure it would cost at least 2k more from then. And what about x2, I have heard its not available any more?

I don't think you can get a 500gb green at that price now. They are far expensive now around 4k due to thailand floods. You need to reconsider the harddisk options.

Check the following:

Component | Make | Price Processor |AMD Athlon II X2 250|2750
Motherboard |Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P (rev. 3.1)|2800
RAM |G-skill F3-10600CL9S-2GBNT|750
HDD |Seagate 250GB 7200.12|3400
DVD Writer |ASUS 24X Sata Black DVD|1150
Case | Iball cabby + psu |1500
Monitor |Acer P206HQ|5150
Keyboard & Mouse |Logitech MK100|500
| Total |18000

Things are a lot different now considering high dollar rates and increased hdd prices.
