Of course, the 2nd one. For gaming, graphics card is the most important component. And that Phenom II is powerful enough.

6850 PE Pounds 5670 by HUGE Margins. Phenom II has enough power to run ANY GAME at ANY setts on ANY Single GFX without bottle necking.

You could even go for an
Athlon II X4 635 @ 4k
and get a Sapphire HD6870 @11.4k

Reason:

The HD5870 is a lil more powerful than the 6870. So at ultra settings HD 6870 would be min to run at 30fps @1080p

i had also shorlisted the AMD

Just Curious if i increase my budget to 5k ( way overkill for me )
and get an Intel i5 2400 will it be worth it ( future proof )

^^ i5-2400 is more future proof than Phenom II X4 955BE. So, if you can increase your budget it will be very good decision.

i5 is obviously much ahead than 955. But as far as gaming goes 955+6850 would be a very good combo. BTW, at which resolution are you gonna game?

I think if you can increase your budget by 5K, get Sapphire HD 6950 2GB @ 15K, rather than getting a high end CPU. It will be highly futureproof solution in terms of game playing.
