Problems with 8600GT

MY config-
intel core 2 duo e4400 2 ghz
mobo- intel d945gcnl
transcend 2 x 1 gb ddr2 mb ram
250 gb hdd
big geforce 8600 gt 512 mb ddr2 ram
viewsonic 19" wide screen lcd monitor
windows xp sp2
directx 9.0c

Now, whenever i play games like unreal tournament 2004 or 3 beta demo or prince of persia - sands of time or nfs - most wanted, it runs smoothly for about 15~20 minutes and then it hangs and some strange sounds come. some times, i have to restart and some times, i do alt+ctrl+del and i get an error that nvidia driver are not functioning properly, plz restart for full functionality.
So, i got an extra fan put but now it still hangs.
please help.

then try the card in another pc and see the performance of the card.if it performs well there then prob is not with the card.

well, no oder pc to try- i have oder 2-
old desktop probably wid agp and has 256mb ram
laptop
new desktop probably wid pci-e x16 slot but has 512 mb ram and min., req. for card is 1 gb

Are the gpu temperatures ok?
Just a hunch...try disabling onboard audio from the bios and then see if the problem repeats.

Try updating all the drivers including motherboard. Try doing a BIOS update.
Dunno if this will work but its worth a try.

u want to disable onboard audio or video?


and how do i update the bios. i have updated everything else??

Seems to be heating issue
Also try to use a good quality PSU like zebronics platinum series or Corsair VX550 PSU

Since XP is whining about the driver, you need not look elsewhere for the problem.
There is a probability that the crash recurs only a particular point in the game. If this is the case, you can conclude that the game code is also to blame. Check for this too.
What you can do is stop all other programs and services, and then try playing the game. Also reducing the resolution (for that particular troublesome level) sometimes helps.
