Hi,

I am planning to upgrade my PC with a budget of 10 K

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Generic - browsing, playing HD movies, games (not high end)

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes, though I would prefer AMD over Intel

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 10,000

4. Planning to overclock?
A: No

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows 7 64 bit

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: I already have SATA HDD - WD 160 GB at 7200 RPM. Storage needs are fullfilled by external hard disk - WD 1TB

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: Already have Viewsonic VA1912wb 1440x900

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 4

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: Yes, with help from friend

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: Immediate

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: Somewhat

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: Preferably Monitor, HDD, Keyboard, Mouse, speakers, cabinet, PSU, UPS, DVD writer. I dont minding buying these, if it is a strong recommendation.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: Bangalore

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
Current PC configuration
ASUS M2NVMHDMI
AMD Athlon 5400
2GB RAM @ 800MHz
ViewSonic VA1912wb
WD 160GB SATA HDD
LG Dual layer DVD writer

Thanks
Sandeep

^^ what PSu do you have ?? Brand and Model name ? wattage ??

your current RiG is good enough - get these :

2GB DDR2 800 Mhz ram @ 1.25k
HD6790 GFx card @ 8.2k
or if your PSu is a generic one get HD6770 @ 6.5-7k and FSp Saga II 500/ Coorsair CX430v2 @ 2.2k

these upgrades will handle your needs like browsing, playing HD movies, games (not high end) very well ;-)

TP i think his current 2GB ram will suffice for his task. DDR2 looks expensive.
and wont the processor bottleneck the GPU?

Lanaya
yes his current processor is quite good enough
just get a decent graphic card
also...which PSU model?

Alternatively he can sell his current cpu+mobo+RAM kits(ram kits will fetch him good amount of money)
suppose he get 5k from it

then he can go for Athlon II X4 + any 785/880g chipset+4gb DDR3 +decent gfx card
all within 15k
ONLY if he already has a good PSU

If Op can OC the cpu by 500 Mhz it will give him good performance improvements but as cilus said it may bottleneck a little - 4GB ram is for using win 7 smoothly ;-)

Op's cpu oced to ~3Ghz / 4GB ram and with a HD6770 / HD6790 still good enough for browsing, playing HD movies, games (not high end) - the things Op has asked for and it's less hassle free ;-)

@ OP - do let us know about your PSU asap.

Gigabyte 78LMT-S2P Rev 3.1 2.7k
Corsair Value pack 1333Mhz RAM 1.35k
