Heard that Xonar Essence ST is a good one...
AFAIK ASUS cards are for audiophiles & creative cards are more gaming based.
Now if gaming is more important with surround effects then go for Creative cards else look for ASUS cards(almost all reviewers use XEssence ST or cheaper variant XE STX )

And what if his motherboard has no PCIe x1 slot or the last PCIe x16 slot which runs upto x4? There's no harm in asking .

You should wait.
One of the contributor for my site is reviewing Asus Xonar U7. Its a mechanical external unit but overall it seems better than Creative ZX flagship model PCIe x1 card- sound wise. The suggested pricing for that is Rs. 4,850/- (excluding taxes).

HDAV1.3 seems to get job done but might be too costly...

For my take get a Music enthusiast/audiophile card cause they sound more neutral..(believe me with good Sound card & speakers/headset you will spend more tie on listening music than playing games.. )

It is not between Auzentech and Asus it is actually between the DAC makers [Wolfson/Cirrus/BurrBrown] and OP AMP makers and their proper integration in the card.

if the matter of sound quality then i choose the best sound card.budget 10-12k.or may be higher.
I have Logitech z5500 speaker 5.1

not every time price is not important,price is high but product not as much good as price...

If you want the best just get the ASUS Xonar Essence STX but it's meant to be used with headphones or 2/2.1 speaker setup mostly .. there's not much good sound cards available for 5.1 setup either you can go with a Phoebus for it's sheer number of features or else opt for ASUS Xonar DSX which sounds equally well, has nice and easy to understand software layout and costs a lot les which makes it absolute VFM product.
