1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: As of now, looking to play the following at the maximum possible settings at 1440x900
Deus Ex: HR, LA Noire, Max Payne 3 (Hitman Absolution when released)
Besides, want max power for transcoding, emulation and virtualization.
2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 450W (or whatever my 4 year old Corsair VX450 provides now) and 30-35k
3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Not this time because of my ever inflating power bills
4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 64-bit and any 64-bit Linux distro
5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: NA, will stick with my current 320GB WD Caviar Blue for now
6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Nope, current monitor: Dell 19" (1440x900)
7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Everything apart from the motherboard and all that is on it
8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: This month or in the next two if price cuts are on the horizon
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Built before
10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Mumbai - Can get from Lamington Road though online options are always welcome
11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Thought of this currently:
Intel Core i5 3550
Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H
SAPPHIRE HD 7850 OC 2GB GDDR5
Gskill RipjawsX (F3-12800/CL9S) 2x4GB
The 7850 seems to be an overkill considering that I would be gaming for only few hours a week and am not looking to endlessly play the latest FPS games.
Hence a ~10-12k option is preferable but can't get the power consumption I need or want.
Can also settle for cheaper RAM if it is not critical to overall performance.
