Gonna buy an iPod....

Hey.

I have after much debate with myself, decided to choose an iPod as my next mp3 player. But i can't decide which one. My choices are the new iPod nano
[8 gig] or an old iPod video 5.5g [30 gig]. Don't get me wrong,I like the new nano, but considering the fact that in the black market the older 30GB 5.5G is available for around the same price or maybe a little more, I am really confused.


Advantages of 5.5G:

• 4 times the space
• 25% bigger screen
• Bigger click wheel
• UI is faster
• Supports rockbox.

Advantages of 3G Nano:

1. Small and thin
2. Front is not as scratch prone as 5.5G
3. Better battery life.

There you have it. I really don't care much for cover flow or the prettier UI. I actually prefer the old one coz it's faster and more text is accomadated in one screen,and I don't have to bother about getting every damn album's cover art.

And if I do get a 5.5G one, it will be white. So i don't think scratches are too much of a problem there..... at least on the front, and i guess i'll just get some kind of a screen guard for th back and the screen.

Please suggest which one. Or even better, suggest an alternative. I have already considered the zen [buttons are cheap] zen vison w [way too bulky] and zen vision [too bulky].

its up to u..for better sound quality u can opt for zune or the creative..but if u want falunt value go fr the ipod..do u really need 30 gb of space??..

i think the nano should do just as well...and its on a newer build and software...

Zune is too expensive [the new one] in India and it has a smaller screen .

I couldn't care less about flaunt value. No, i don't need 30 gigs of space, but it would be nice to have some of it to backup some of my stuff and have a little extra for a couple of movies. But i do need the bigger click wheel, bigger screen and faster UI.

get the creative zen na..i guess it cums at the same price..or get urself the SE W950

6G is at the same cost as that of 5.5G and is big on space; apple no longer makes/supplies 5.5G what u will get now are the not sold

no what i meant is that the 80gig classic is a 5.5g replacement product and comes at the cost at which the 5.5G was sold

buy a creative zen if you will be on the move often or else an ipod classic

cos zen and nano has flash drives so they are more reliable when running moving frequently etc (like in a gym)... but if u want more space and can be a bit more soft on the usage of your player go for the HDD ones...

I strongly recommend creative zen instead of nano

p.s. @ ring_wraith: Zune 2's screen is larger than ipod classic

You have to ask these questions to yourself:
1. How much video do you intend to watch on it, if at all?
2. What is the size of your media collection?
3. Will there be any jerks and shocks involved, i.e. do you intend to use it while you're running, playing outdoor sports, etc.?

dude watever u do dont go for the 5.5G or the 5G ... 6G is current go for it .... or go for the nano ... the nano in my opinion is better if u travel a lot in trains/buses etc ... go for the 6G if u want to double it as ur portable hard disk

Creative Zen is in all manners better then iPod nano

Yep.. Creative zens are too good. U can get a 4gb zen in 5-6k perhaps. The buttons hav a good feel too.

iriver>cowon=zen>iPod

Is the iRiver clix 2G available in India? If it is a I am already sold. I absolutely love that thing.

Though sound quality is a fairly subjective issue, I don't think you'll find a lot of people who agree with you that iRivers, Cowons and Zens sound better than iPods.

i agree to ring...i have the ipod and its bass reproduction is terrible..even with good quality headphones...
now i prefer using my hpone rather than having a standalone mp3 player..

I've a Zune and an i-pod classic and have also used nano and in my opinion, Sound Quality of Zune is simply awesome and the i-pod feels quite offshade when compared with it. Igot the i-pod just for its sleekness and looks or else even watching videos was very comfortable on Zune although i-pod has got a sharper screen due to its smaller size (Same resolution)
