I have a requirement for GFX card in the budget around 3.5K.
My requirement is moderate gaming - not very resource hungry games.
Which one to go for 8600GT or 9500Gt? Any other in this range?
Which one is cooler, less power hungry and perform better.
Keep in mind the budget range - don't suggest higher range and compare with them. (would love a 9600 GT but I dont want to invest in a SMPS right now).

oh wow...Xenforo!!!
You are better off with 8600gt. 9500gt doesnt qualify as a gaming card but 8600gt is a low end gaming card. 8600gt should work properly on a generic psu- but to be on the safe side can you tell me which power supply?

Wire muncher!
For a bit more (not much difference) you can get ATi 3650 which is somewhat better performing card than 8600gt. I'd recommend this card.

9500GT vs 8600GT depends if you have an uber 8600GT OCed and looow end 9500GT then 8600GT may win.

But most benchmarks show that 9500GT > 8600GTS > HD3650 > 8600GT.

The reason 9500GT is not a gaming card is that most games need better cards to run at max, but 8600GT WAS a gaming cardat time of its release, since it could run all then available games rather comfortably.

Today, 8600GT is definitely not a gaming card. 9600GT might be the bare minimum for qualifying to be one.

And yeah, ATI still has no REAL competition for 9600GT. I hope HD4750 comes for that :D

if u hav 1k extra, buy HD4650...its a lot better than 8600GT and 9500GT
not worth it. either go for 9500GT or 9600GT or HD4850. Ones between are not worth the money you pay, unless you are on a tight budget. HD4650 is an oddball - its just designed for the power starved. Consumes least power while still offering gamability.

Bond, Desi Bond!
my pick would be 9600GT for 6k. Definitely the one to go for.

If strictly inside 3.5k, I don't think there is any choice. 8600GT!!!

None, increase the budget a li'l more if ur thinking already to 6-6.3k
Get 9600GT, no better buy than that.

A palit 9600Gt is available in Kolkata for 6.25K. But it is dual slot. I dont want to go for a dual slot card.
Also the I think 4670 will perform similarly and consume less power (MSI/Sapphire/Asus one is single slot).
So, will it not be a good buy in 6K region?

Bought a Asus HD4670 1GB DDR3 from Arihant, kolkata yesterday @ 6.5K+VAT.
The Palit one 512 MB is available for 5.7K+VAT.
But my card turned out to be DOA - going for a replacement today.

What a waste, u cud have got a much faster and obviously a much better 9600GT for that price or even 200 bucks lesser.

IMO 4670 is DirectX 10 compatible, consumes less power. since my PC runs 10-12 hours a day - lower power consumption is a very important consideration for me.
Actually upgradation to the GFX card was pending for a long time considering the increased power consumption.
