Hello guys , I want to update almost all the main components of the PC . just leave keyboard, monitor, mouse and HDD, speaker.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Web browsing, I watch 720P movie most of the time, rarely gaming, will use Photoshop

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: I have no choice but to buy an Intel rig

3. What is your MAX budget?
A:20k

4. Planning to overclock?
A: No

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows 7

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: Already have 2*320 GB SATA2 7200 HDD

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: I have a 17" 1440x900 resolution screen

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 7

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: I can assemble myself

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: Next 15 days

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: Nope

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: Graphic card

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: No online purchase :( will get prices from local shops..I know perfectly where to buy

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: Already mentioned above:wink:

I checked other threads and came to know about this config
Intel i3-2100 3.1 GHZ
Intel DH67BL-B3
4 GB RAM
PSU & Cabinet - I have to look for the availability in local market and will update here

All suggestions are welcome...any advice if I can fit an i5 here:mrgreen:

For 20k Intel System forget abt i5 as itself will cost half of your budget.

And for that budget AMD will give you better options than Intel.

I know the limitations with intel low budget config and tried to tell that too but got an answer " AMD heats up faster" , "AMD is not good in indian conditions" , " AMD have many issues "

I have to built a Intel config only...even if I have to compromise a bit

member since 3yrs here & still believe in these comments. only problem with AMD based rig is, some Phenom II coolers make a lot of sound. there is absolutely no heat problem.

U guys r not understanding a bit...when money is dad's and purpose is for home I have to listen to him...
I already said I tried to tell them the good thing about AMD but its like Nokia is the best wala factor...Intel is best and we will get that :(

@Piyush ....I made my own config even in 2000 and 2005 ...I might be outdated due to sheer interest in photography & mobiles nowdays :)

amd's processors will have low temperature limit when compared to Intel then that means they run cooler.just that some of phenom II processors heat sink fan makes a lot of nice but cooling is not a issue.if it does not fit in Indian conditions then what those people in Africa will use?they can neither use Intel nor AMD.i don't know why believe in those shi**.
sorry didn't checked your last post:oops:but still yaar those stories are still there.these things are created by those shopkeeper who doesn't know ABCD of computers.

Guys tell me y dont you suggest i3-2100 ...

what I saw in the results in Anandtech and TomsHardware websites is that this is one of the top 6-7 best performing processors today

just the AMD phenom X4 970 beats it in AMD camp

and It consumes less power then all AMDs and i5, i7

Any suggestion?? please explain

yes it will but it is costlier than amd's processor and also mobo will be costly.the one which will use four cores will perform better in amd quad cores(phenom) than i3.

@sukesh...you r right...multithreaded games will definitely enjoy the quadcore processor

But I am not going to play games....too busy :(

If you're not into games then quad core Phenom II X4 955 is the best choice as it beats the i3 2100 is most of the other multi-threaded applications and it is proven by a lot of reviews that 955 is a overall better choice than i3 2100. GEt it with your eyes closed. I was a proud owner of one before getting my 1090T and I can tell you that it offers superb performance for the value.
Although you've mentioned that you're not gonna OC, overclocking any of the AMD black edition processor is just fun, you can use the AMD catalyst software to do it efficiently from within windows, no need to go inside BIOS. I used to OC it at 3.5 GHz without any issues with the stock cooler.

^^brother you used to catalyst to overclock the processor?when i used it just starts with v core 1.5v for the test and within a matter of time temp goes above 70C:cry::shock:.but in bios with a vcore of 1.225 i get a stable speed of 3.4GHz.
