Gaming PC for 30k...is it possible?

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:
Mainly for games, like Skyrim, diablo 3, starcraft 2 and witcher 2

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:
Under 30k

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:
I don't know, will it cause any problems in hot, humid Chennai weather?

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:
windows 7 and Ubuntu

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:
Probably 500GB, or whatever is optimal for the price

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:
Yes, any 18'5 inch will do

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:
Don't need a DVD player as I can get it from my old pc

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:
In the next 2 days.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:
yes, I will be assembling it.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:
I live in Chennai and would like to buy everything locally if its possible.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
Also can anyone recommend a good place in Chennai to buy, because I had a look at ItDepot in Adyar (Theitdepot - India's First IT Online Shopping Store) but they seem a bit expensive.

Thank you

I have been doing some research and have come up with this list. Its still too expensive for me so can someone suggest cheaper alternatives to some of the parts so that it is less the 30K. Also the prices in chennai seem to be higher then what I see on these forums. Why is that? Does anyone know where I can get the best prices in chennai?

HD 6850 is mostly available at 9k. Better go for hd 6770 at 7k. I think that would be enough to play games at 1366x768 with high settings with good fps. Also, change the processor to core i3 2100.

RiGOd, don't suggest cheap 600 bucks Cabinet with cards like HD 6850, the resulting system will lead you to a very high temperature inside the box. Otherwise the config is good. However, for 1366X68 resolution, HD 7770 or HD 6790 + i3 2100 is better option in my opinion as at lower resolution games become more cpu bound.

i3 2100 @ 6.3K
Biostar TH67B H67 Motherboard @ 4.5K
Corsair Value Series 1333 MHz 4GB X 1 DDR3 @ 1.1K
MSI HD 6790 @ 8K
FSP SAGA II 500W/Corsair CX 430 V2 @ 2.3K
Big Case from Intex/Frontech @ 1K

Yep. If the Case is not having good airflow possibilities then Higher end GFX practically Cooks it from inside.

Always buy an OVERKILL Cabby & PSU as far as possible. Only those 2 parts are kinda future proof.

Thank you for the quick reply guys.

I have decided to go for the i32100 since most of you have sugested it. The shop keeper said I should buy a amd x4 phenon 960. Combined with the motherboard it ends up almost the same as the i32100 and motherboard.

The motherboard is also somthing I am confused about.
The ASUS P8H61-M PLUS V2 I think only has 2 ram slots, I would like one with 4 slots so that I can expand later, since ram seems to be pretty cheap.
And is Biostar a good brand to buy from since I have never heard of them. I am by no means a techwiz so me not hearing about a brand dosn't mean anything.
The only things I know look for are the ram slots and if it has usb 3.0 support. Any information on have to compare and choose a motherboard will be useful.

As for the case I am thinking of the Zebronics Bijli. Will that be enough to stop overheating as Tech_wiz suggested.

Thanks for all the info guys. I finally managed to buy it but it cost way more than I intended. Chennai seems more expensive than the places you guys buy. Dammit.

Processor: i3 2100

Motherboard: Intel 67CL OEM

Hard Drive: Samsung Seagate 500gb

RAM: Corsair Value Pack 4GB

Monitor: Acer 18.5" LCD

Cabinet: Zerbonics Bijili

SMPS: Cooler Master 500W

Keyboard/Mouse: Logitech MK 200

Microtek: UPS 625VA

GPU: XFX ATI Radeon HD 6770

TOTAL: RS 36600

As you can see it was way over budget but I couldn't resist. I wish I lived where you guys live.

should have went for HD6770 from some other manufacturer and a better PSU. that PSU is Extreme Power for sure. rest everything looks good.

most of us buy online. Even in my place price of computer components are high. thankfully flipkart prices are low.

@OP. Just change the PSU if possible or it will ruin something(gpu, cpu anything). I think shopkeeper has convinced you regarding it. You should have asked/read the chart beforehand in this forum.

Whats wrong with my psu. According to the chart it says I need a 450W PSU for a hd6790. Mines a 500W and only a hd 6770. Your right, it says "Extreme Power Plus" on my PSU. I thought that was a good thing, right? Damn it cost me RS3500. I also thought cooler master was a good brand.

I checked the prices on flipkart and they are lower. My bad for not researching properly. You guys should recomend everyone to buy from there.

A PSU's performance is not only dependent upon the quoted watage, it depends upon several factors like Voltage Ripple handling (Sudden rise or fall), Efficiency (how much power it will draw from the circuit to provide quoted power), overload protection (if the power requirement suddenly becomes higher than the PSUs capability), working temparature (power delivery and efficiency normally decrease with the increase of ambient temp) and most importantly can it provide the quoted power.

Sadly, Cooler Master Extreme Series PSUs don't satisfy most of the above mentioned criteria. It has a terrible reputaion while handling voltage ripple and also the 500W model is actually a 430 to max 450W PSU, not a true 500W. That's why in a single suggestion here doesn't have recommendation for CM Extreme Series. However, if it is CM GX series then it is still okay.

Since your product is very new, try to burgain with the Shopkeeper to replace the PSU and get something like Corsair CX 430V2 @ 2.3K.

@Cilus Thanks for the thorough explanation of the PSU. Sadly the shop keeper refuses to exchange it. I'll just have to hope nothing spoils till I manage to get enough money to buy a new one. From flipkart this time.
