Did you tried another gfx card ? Check that. If prob not solved then
If your card is under warranty then replace that card.

For software - I'll suggest to run a 3D mark 2006 Benchmark & see what happens.
It will stress & put a heavy gpu intensive benchmark.
But I think replacing your card is the way to go.

I think your card is getting over heated. Can you post the temps of your gfx card & processor card in these condition :

1. @ system startup ( I mean when you got into your os )
2. After 1 hour simple work.
3. After half or one hour heavy gaming
4. After 1 or two hour movie watching.

For all these download rivatuner :
*downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163

Or Gpu-Z:

PLease post the temps in text format coz for some reason I'm not able to see the attached image , If I click on the link Iam only getting the link on the browser window.

temperature are(frm xp coz vista cant run for 30 mins:():-
gpu card
@ system startup ( I mean when I got into os ) = 49-50

After 1 hour simple work = 52-53

After half or one hour heavy gaming = 56-57

After 1 or two hour movie watching = 52-53

processor card
temperature here of core 0 and core 1 mostly remains the same or differ by 1 degree

@ system startup ( I mean when I got into os ) = 22

After 1 hour simple work = 24

After half or one hour heavy gaming = 28

After 1 or two hour movie watching = 23

the problem is not with the rig , its with the drivers..download latest drivers for ur card..
this problem usually occurs while watching movies if there's a conflict

installing latest drivers will solve this issue..and do not install beta drivers , if any

and download drivers from nvidia.com

For vista 32-
*us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/175.16/175.16_geforce_winvista_32bit_english_whql.exe

For XP-
*us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/175.16/175.16_geforce_winxp_32bit_english_whql.exe
i agree with u.......
