hi frnds,
acc to FAST TRACK of jan 2008, it is given on page no. 124 (second last line) that
(1) "A computer can connect to a maximum of 127 usb devices direclty or by using hubs."
nd on page no. 34 last paragraph it is given that
(2) "A maximum of 24 logical drives can be created, since each drives need to be lettered, and letters A and B are reserved for floppy disks."

my question is that if the (1) statement is true then how the OS assign letter to usb drive. b'coz it can neither give (aa,ab.......) nor (a1,a2......) nd of cource nt the special symbols..........
or the 1st statement is wrong???..........

yes the first statement is true but not practically (as far as i know:-|).....its only possible theoretically...

read it long time back.....so the info is a little hazy

but AFAIRemember, if partitions exceed 26, the remaining partitons can be mounted as folders

Maybe the 124 figure is for all type of USB devices[max] and 24 is the max number of storage devices.

Well I am not sure about windows, others can help with that but unix based OS's can very well handle such a large number of devices without any problems.

1) AFAIR, thats becoz of 8 bits of which 1 bit is used as RESET. That leaves 7 bits!
2) I think thats becoz of the alphabetic scheme used, 26 in total, in windows.

About ur question, the alphabetic scheme is not for *nix (Linux, BSD etc).
