Best android phone under 8k(strict)

I am the night...I am...
Hello friends. :)

Need to make a purchase soon and budget is tight as you can see.

Have shortlisted on two phones which are:

1. Samsung galaxy Y @ 7.5k
2.Samsung galaxy pop s5570 @ 8k

Guys from what i've found out, the pop has a slight better hardware than Y as it sports an adreno 200 gpu and has a slight bigger screen and better camera.

Look wise Y is a tad better but lacks a gpu and also is a bit lower in the fronts mentioned above.

So which would be a better buy for a first android phone? I'm upgrading from my nokia 5130 xpressmusic ( will give it to dad). So guys are the above phones good at their price? And which is recommended?

Both sports arm v6 processor and pop runs at 600mhz. Though there's a pop s5570i which comes with an overclocked 823 mhz cpu but its 300 bucks more and can be considered. But 600mhz cpu can be overclocked by 200 mhz from what i've heard.

Pop runs the older froyo while Y has gingerbread. Though i know they can be upgraded and that's not a problem afaik. So guys please help me out with this purchase.

Nope budget is very tight. Y is always an option but what about the pop? Isn't it a good buy considering the gpu it sports and overall i find it better than the Y. Any specific reason of not going for it?

pop plus may use the same soc as galaxy y i.e. no gpu. so getting old pop makes more sense. yes its processor can be overclocked by 150-200Mhz.

but if you can, search for Optimus One. it should be availabile for 8k or maybe a little bit more. but it is discontinued now

^^ Sam i'm talking about this.

This has an adreno 200 gpu whereas the y does not have it. Yeah the cpu is same i.e ARMv6.

So what say mate?

you have misread my last post for sure. i have already said to go for old Pop. as Pop Plus most likely lacks a GPU. Pop have Adreno 200 GPU which is not much powerful but can drive most games without lag.

May I know what you tend to use it for with that GPU support? Play games?

2nd reason: Android 4 has suport for GPU acceleration. means every bit of UI can be rendered by GPU. and as i am already on Android 4.0.3 + full hardware acceleration, i have to say it makes a difference. so its just a matter of time before someone does the same for Pop (or it may already have got it).

@ ico

What's the price of xcd35 buddy and is it better than pop? Saw it has ARM11 cpu which is better than ARM6 isn't it?

But again it lacks that adreno 200 gpu.:(

@ Sam

So pop s5570 is a good option isn't it? And what about dell xcd35 that ico suggested?

Man i'm getting confused.:(

Dell XCD35 cost 8k if you buy from Dell Showroom. And you have to buy from Dell Showroom as local shops don't sell it any longer.

Dell XCD, LG Optimus One/Me/Net, Samsung Galaxy Fit/Pop/Ace all are powered by same SOC. Qualcomm MSM7227 which is 600-800Mhz and have Adreno200 GPU.

err, ARM V6 is the architecture. ARM11 is the instruction set.

XCD35 is a better choice but with a few problems:
1. ram is 256Mb (heard new ones comes with 512Mb which is a huge boost)
2. processor is really weak for the big display. Moreover not only is display big, it packs a really high resolution.
3. Bigger screen + smaller battery = battery problem for sure.
4. DISCONTINUED :|

but the good thing is, it is one of the best supported mobiles by DEVs.

Pop on the other hand has less ram. around 300Mb. which is enough for an entry level mobile. Also its resolution is just too low. Some games doesn't support QVGA screen. Even Android 4.0 didn't support this resolution. only after Android 4.0.2 update was the support added (according to wikipedia). Lastly bigger battery, the better. Though it should last you for 24hrs as Samsung battery offers better backup.

Go for Dell XCD35. I also have it. It have Adreno 200 GPU and It comes with 512-512 MB of RAM-ROM. 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen with 480x800 (WVGA) pixel resolution gives u best experience of web browsing and It is able to play some HD games. It is better than LG Optimus One P500. It have official CyanogenMod support and many more custom ROM support by XDA & MODACO communities. I will highly recommend u this phone over Samsung crappy budget phones. (Note:There is another device which looks same as Dell XCD35. Its known as IDEA BLADE or Idea 3g Blade whatever it called. Do not go for it. It is chinese version of ZTE Blade which have only 256-256 MB of RAM-ROM. Its RAM is not unlockable. Only go for Dell XCD35. U will not get benefits of CyanogenMod and other customs roms on Idea Blade.)

Thanks for clearing mate.:) I will probably have to choose between pop and xcd35 then. But in the spec sheet of xcd35 in gsmarena and dell official site, its nowhere mentioned about the adreno 200 gpu. Does it really sport adreno 200?

@ others

Thanks for your valuable comments. Much appreciated.

it uses MSM7227 SOC which comes with Adreno 200 GPU. its like buying a AMD A6 3500 and ditching the builtin Radeon GPU which is not possible

Galaxy y does have gpu... According to broadcomm galaxy y has a gpu which supports upto opengl 2.0....
If i'm not wrong then chipset is bcm21553... Confirm it with sam mobile purchase guide, google it and check out broadcomm web page.... (on mobile otherwise would have directly posted the link)

Btw i also upgraded from 5130, now i have galaxy y for abt 10 days... 3.0 & 3.2 wont make big difference if you get the same resolution....

Will Power
Also consider the Idea Blade!
Its the same as the Dell XCD
I Dont know about the RAM thing, cuz some people(on the flipkart page) say its 512, some say its 256 some say its 'locked' (Whatever the heck that means)
Do find out! If it says 256mb, better you go with the Dell one.
The display is great, also the DEV support like Sam said is good!
Note: IT IS NOT NETWORK LOCKED!
It will work with ANY SIM

Also I have a few friends with the Galaxy ACE And FIT
I dont know about other games but when they tried to play games like FIFA and Assassin's creed (the 2D one) the main problem they faced was that the games didnt fit the screen, I dont know the technical term for it but I think the apps were made keeping in mind a standard minimum of 480X320 resolution while all the Galaxy ones (Y,POP,FIT etc.) have 320X240 res! So most of the screen during gameplay was 'cut out'
(Galaxy Y owners PLEASE correct me if Im wrong!)

And Check this out too!:
Acer Liquid Mini Price, Specifications, Review and Images

Adreno 200, 600 MHz proccy, 512 MB RAM AND a 480X320 Resolution!
I know you said 8K and this one is for 9K but I guess if you want all these features this is your last choice! :(
Like the others said DO try to look for the Optimus One for 8K!

Another Option is :
Micromax A75 Superfone Lite Price, Specifications, Review and Images
650 proccy, 3.7 inch screen , adreno 200, no idea on the Ram though :(
Highly recommended if you dont mind low(or in this case No) DEV Support, the Brand name Micromax :p And if you find out the Ram is 512 MB!

Check ZTE Blade specifications on Gsmarena. Dell XCD35's spec mentioned on gsmarena and Dell official website are outdated. Never go for Idea Blade it have only 256 MB RAM and its not unlockable. Check XDA Developers ZTE Blade forum for further issues of Idea Blade.
