hi.my specs are :-
intel core i3 530
intel motherboard dh55tc
gigabyte hd7750
6 gb ram
cooler master elite 350 w psu

as me exams are coming up,i decided to put away my hd 7750.after that i wanted to test my i3,so i played sleeping dogs.of course,it played terribly, with even the lowest setting not giving playable rates.after 20-25 mins of playing, the system shut down abruptly.i tried to restart the system, but it wouldn't start.so i turned off the psu, there was a spark and on turning it on,even the motherboard light wouldn't lit.i replaced the psu with an older one,and the system worked fine.i know the psu has gone ,but i want to know why.i didn't think that i3 could overload the psu.even still, with no gpu, shouldn't the psu have been able to handle that?
thanks in advance for reply.

This is why we always advice to stay away from CM Extreme Power. Even without load they die all of a sudden.

Right off the assembly line
something must have damaged it while you were busy removing the graphics card.. RMA it, and now would be a good time to buy a backup PSU, even if it is a cheap one.

mine is CM Elite, but yeah i get the point.

RMA the PSU if it is under warranty. Otherwise throw it away. It is dead.

well i dont know about damaging it,it could have happened though i don't think so,and it worked for around 2 hours without complain.and about RMA,i don't think CM has online RMA.so i i'l have to replace it through the retailer.i'm thinking of replacing it after my boards, that way i can't be tempted to use my 7750 before them.:p

thanks for replying.

Don't buy a cheap PSU again if you do have to buy one. You replace a crap PSU with a crappier one and the problems will continue. If the RMA is successful, then good for you OP or else next time invest in a Corsair 80+ certified line up of PSUs. I would skimp on other parts of a computer but never the PSU.

Remember one thing don't unplug any device (except removable device like pen drive, external HDD) when system is in on condition, it may cause failure of any component. Use certified components for your PC either it is PSU or HDD. I think you should contact to your retailer as soon as possible because i3 is an advance processor with great efficiency. It can not put over load to PSU, it is the most finest processor now-a-days in market. Motherboard light is not blinking is really a subject to concern, but I think it was because of PSU failure or may be PSU you are connecting does not compatible with motherboard.

whats a "certified component"? you mean to say that the chinese are pirating even PSU's and Hdd's now???? the gall of them!!!
