I will choose the 2nd option. But it is funny, he is like a in house quiz master. I never thought of such a question, let him continue.....

May be because the use of material called PLCC.

Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier (PLCC) is a square surface-mount chip package for low thermal output microprocessors that substitutes epoxy plastic for the ceramic materials that are commonly used to encase chips in systems designed for microprocessors that produce high thermal outputs that can melt the plastic epoxy. PLCCs are JEDEC standard compliant. The PLCC “J” Lead configuration requires less board space versus equivalent gull-leaded components.

It is weird how so many people felt that his question was dumb but no one cared to actually answer it :confused:

I kind of liked his question...made me remember those thick "Tell me more" series books that I read when I was a kid. Anyways, the answer behind most of the circuit boards being green is a material known as solder mask (Google for more) that is applied on both sides of a circuit board and yes it comes in lots of other colours but green is the commonest as it is the oldest.

^^true, even i only actually tried to get an answer.

let me take another guess...

motherboards in olden days were green coz they had lead enamel on them to disperse heat. same goes for the chips the plastics used for the chips were also used high lead content so as to disperse heat.

however since lead is harmful to the nature, it is being replaced now with other ecofriendly substances, and you got your red, golden etc colors.

The Thread Killer >:)
The color is mainly because of a substance called solder mask This is to preven the board getting damaged during soldering. Saw the whole process and its simply amazing!! :D
