^true, but no reason that should not change rapidly. Already the consoles are not soo much next gen in terms of tech advancement, they are slyly turning into entertainment hubs

Argument by titles?

Doom, wolfenstein 3d, dead space, The world ends with you solo remix, Marvel vs capcom 2... All still sell on mobiles, and will continue to do so

Not to mention Bastion, frozen synapse, super hexagon, uplink, machinarium... There is no dearth of the best content around

Thats just the stuff not specifically made for touchscreens, or gameloft clones

The purists will always stay faithful to the Consoles and PC's for sure!! But the quality of the mobile games has increased considerably and the money that is needed to be invested for a casual gamer in a mobile phone is on the lower side!! So since there are more casual or once in while gamers than the purists, the industry and the world around the purists may choose the bigger economy (which is not the purists) adn hence the hardware and the games designed to run on this hardware may be for the casual and for the beginners which may effect the sales of the consoles and the PC's since the purists wont be paying for kids toys, which may lead to a very bad posture for the purists...

Definitely not. Mobile gaming will just be a companion to the Console/PC gaming.
If Console/PC were gods, handheld consoles will be like Demigods, not Archenemies..

There is a trade off.

If you increase the screen size and then pack a powerful enough rig to display that eye candy then you simply have a console other than a mobile

If you keep the screen size fixed then no matter how beautiful the gameplay you can never scale up to the PC level graphics

The problem is, the way we interact with devices. You do realize that holding a gamepad/joystick/gaming gear is infinitely different than just touching your screen to play on mobile phones/tablets. You will never have that kind of involvement that you can have with a console or a PC that has a mouse and a keyboard to interact.

Taking the example of a competitive game such as Counter-Strike where it is more convenient to handle a mouse+keyboard than just a touch interface OR maybe even an Xbox controller the PC version will never die away.

Similarly, the Warcraft and Starcraft and other MMORPGs. There are many genres but you see its all about the game interface and people who play them. The casual gamer is happily touching and swiping away a Temple Run, Angry Birds, Samurai Vengeance, Infinity Blade, Real Racing... without getting that involved into the elements of gameplay like micro-management in Dota or tactical strategy in CS. The casual gamer is just not that involved except that he had a good time going from place A to B or any other similar situation where he had a few minutes to spare(though I know there are some who play devotedly but they are a minority)

The interface provided by a console and a PC is far more advanced and developed than a limiting touch interface. You can have gyrometers and what nots, but still can't quite match the controller. This is why playing Crysis is still more logical on a PC/console than on an S4 or Nexus 10... though that is changing and it is great. Developers are trying hard to make games that make innovative use of the touch interface.

Finally, the mobile/tab is afterall a device that does much more than just run games. The PC/console is a dedicated device that was solely developed to run top of the line games and because their form factor is much larger than a mobile, they can pack far more computing power than a handheld device owing to the difference in die size

Short Answer
Will mobile gaming kill consoles and PC ?
No.

Don't mobile gamers outnumber PC/console gamers ?
That will not wipe away a market segment

Doesn't mobile gaming cost less ?
No.The Sony PS3 500GB costs less than a Note 3 and will last longer than any phone

Finally, a befitting conclusion. IMO this makes for a great read. Grab some chips and read till the very end :)
Can mobile gaming kill the consoles ?

World of Goo was released first on pc, then wii, then on touchscreens. Git highest rating on touchscreens. Its better for some games, uplink (originally for pc), anomaly warzone, solar 2...
There are variety of controllers available or planned for touchscreens
a touchscreen is part of wii u inputs
Get used to touchscreen invasion

Phone is more intimate than tv, so actually more engaging. A grindy mmo or rpg is actually more fun in short bursts during cofee breaks and just before sleeping as against having to take a vacation when a new AAA title goes into beta testing

@Anorion

Different strokes for different folks.

Point is, whether mobile gaming will remove the consoles from market ? I don't think so. Just like having a better cam in a phone doesn't really replace the high end photography gear that you guys have, console gaming will never retire as there will always be a gap between the two

@rajatGod512
Let the guy take some rest, he's been driving the ship for far too long :-D

Would accept argument if we still carried around mp3 players, point and shoot cams, physical books, pmps, handheld gaming consoles, radios and torches to the same extent if mobiles were not around. All of them are clearly better, but what do you use all the time?

Again, its the demographic.

What do you prefer when you have the same game available on different platforms and not travelling, not waiting, not outside ?
(Definitely not a phone, I guess)

...but what do you use all the time?
The phone

Living to Play
I use phone all the time but that doesn't mean that I would game on it. I mean I rarely play any game on mobiles because of small screen and all. :)

What if in the future you would just put your phone down in front of the TV, pick up the BT controller (joystick) and start playing AAA titles, just like that.
TV and controller factored in. Wondering what exactly is stopping Apple, Google or Amazon from offering gaming options for the living room.

I have always enjoyed gaming on PCs, because of their larger screen size. However, due to the bulkiness and the difficulty in carrying them, gaming on PCs and laptops is not always possible... :(

Because of this simple reason Mobile /Console gaming can never beat PC
