After my sister admission i will be getting about 10k in hand .I want to buy a Smart phone ( not Business but entertainment purpose ) under say next 3 months . My friends are saying LG Cookie and i am also fond of touchscreen . What should i do ? Will there be any new launches in next 3 months in touchscreen sector ? Is Brand selection necessery . I personally hate Sony for it's brittleness ,so please don't advise me to buy of that brand. About 11 to 12 k can also work as the price will come down or can be bargained for 10 k or under in coming months.

LG cookie is NOT a smartphone.
I think the only smartphone available in that range are htc touch and some windows mobile phone. Pathetic for entertainment purpose.

Sorry buddy, but having a good touchscreen smartphone for ~10k is difficult for now.

I had my HTC Gene (Windows Mobile) for around that price. And it has been serving me quite well, but you may not be me.
Nevertheless WiMo opens up a lot of opprtunities and there are some really good apps. Plus, WiMo is great for managing your digital life.
But this low-end-model might not be really impressive in entertainment department though.

If you want to have a phone complying to today's norms, either drop the 'smartphone' or drop the 'touchscreen' part. HTC Gene, Touch aint that bad, try'em out.

touchscreen dumbfones (ok , non smartfones)
- lg cookie ( shud be 11k approx)
- samsung star (definately 10k in 3 months)
- samsung start 3g (doubtful to come down to 10k)

touchscreen smartfones
- p3400 (wimo , really old ... tis 9k right now)
maybe some more htc fones ... all wimo ... not worth

non touch smartfones
- nokia 5320 ( its 9.9k now)
-samsung i450
- nokia 5630 (if u are lucky ... but it unlikely .. it'll still cost 12k atleast after 3mnths)

SORRY sorry sorry

I will never demand a smartphone in that touch segment . I already own Sony K550i & Nokia 7610 & they are serving me well considering Games & apps so leave samrtphone . What actually is problem is that my thumb hurts when i use this mobiles extensively & i can't even use them for normal purposes like calling etc or writing sms that's why i required a touchscreen . My new but decreased requirement for a touchphone are

Decent sound for occasional music intrest

If possible fullscreen video out ,any format works for me only for occasional viewing

If possible it should have flash with the camera ,though i tend to click only in daylight

if & if only possible can it have good music and filemanagemnt such that the songs can be browsed through album art

Can some of the avaliable models summarise these features ?

My friend bought LG Cookie few days back for 9.7k

Though it does have auto rotating screen and shake but somehow did not look appealing to me. Volume is great so is the screen. But it catches finger prints and you'll be left wiping it to keep it as good looking as it looks on websites.

I would not have bought it having used Motorokr E6 previously.

Just for your info , original 7610 (not supernova) is a smartphone.

Btw , using touchscreen is more pain than normal phones. Eerything requires more movement of fingers in every work , so if you get your thumb soared easily , think again before jumping touchscreen .

Depends. When I am in my room, sitting on my bed and using my Windows Mobile phone, I can get a lot more work done than I could have ever done without a touchscreen.

I'm not talking about what can be done or not , i'm talking about the 'effort' needed to use touchscreen phone . For example , when using opera mini on 5800 , to scroll a page i have to drag my finger form bottom to top of the screen , now imagine reading some long forum and think about how many times finger needs to be dragged. In a normal phone , you just need to press 8 .

There are few advantages in touchscreen , but comfort is not among them.

I own the orginal only ,its only negative point is it only accept upto s60 v2 software only

coming to touchphone , actually i had read in a health magazine that it is better to shift to touchphone for better comfort . From above discussion ,i think the information is turning as a hoax

Samsung star. Better battery , better music ,slightly better camera , better looks , better music quality , slightly faster edge . But most important and big enough reason , its not lg .

Cookie has better interface though.

^^ lol really ? i found cookie to be great :|

Cookie was great until star came.

I personally had very bad experience with lg phones . So my neurons refuses to transmit anything that says 'lg' and 'great' in same sentence . So dont argue with me , it'll get personal. ;-)
