As I said before, please change the drive once and check. as your current problem's source is the DVD Drive, you should check by replacing it with another test drive. Apart from that try swapping the SATA Ports for your drive and HDD.

Windows XP? can I know the reason why you want to stick to windows XP and not the latest version i.e., Win 7

im not sure about tools available in Ubuntu to create Bootable XP Flash Drive , but if you can get hold of some of your friends laptop/pc then you can use this guide How to Create a Bootable XP Flash Drive | eHow.com

I would still recommend you to go for Win 7

EDIT: Another link for information on creating Win7 Bootable USB Drive Microsoft releases Win 7 USB / DVD download tool for easy install on netbooks without DVD drive

EDIT: *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/tutorials/139245-installing-windows-7-pen-drive.html :p

I also want to run windows 7....but my father has to use the pc for running tally 7.2 for his accounting work

And morever the issue is solved it was that psu which was creating problems...will never buy that stuff ...ill be getting it replaced as it is having another 3 month replacement warranty left..and will sell it rightaway...the problem was with sata power connectors
