specswise both are almost equal. All i want is to play movies without conversion. mini looks better for that as it supports 720p.I am not convinced about video playback quality of defy(even after that 720p hack which is working for some and not working for some on xda). but SE is taking too much time to release xperia mini. too much confused.

what is your budget? Defy currently cost 14-15k & SE Mini will surely cost 18k or more. if you are ready to spend 18k, why not look for a proper Android mobile with bigger screen?

its on pre order for 210 GBP(15000rs) in uk . univercell priced it at 15k. so maybe 16k at launch.
But no release date here.

 don't talk about univercell price & listing. they'll list items for months placing a "COMING SOON" tag next to it. happened with Nexus S.

also by the time it comes to the market, we'll have 4", 1Ghz SOC, Gingerbread based droids in 17-18k price range. the screen is only 3" & trust me, to enjoy Android experience you seriously need a 3.5" screen. so forget it & get Defy or if you can increase your budget to ~20k, there are a whole lot of powerful droids to choose from.

funny side will be if 4'' droids comes to 17-18k then minis will drop to 14-15.
just kidding.

SE is way way behind others in the Android race. first of all they release a series of Xperia devices with only X10 being close to perfect (14-15k for a tiny 2.65" android 2.1 mobile is ridiculous) & then stop supporting them by offering no update. now they launch a series of high power 3" droid costing 16-18k (expected launch price). what are they upto only they know. they are scaring away their own loyal customers.

i totally agree.... SE does not seem to have a definite strategy with android phones... they are always late.. be it with device launch or with updates... they should have released their new xperia mini series a month ago.. then it could have been successful but with the storm of dual core phones coming the 3.5''-4" 1ghz phones will definetely drop their price to 16-17 thousand.. Even with 1ghz processer and 720p video recording 13-14 thousand for xperia mini will sound too expensive.. sam is right.. there's no way you can enjoy android on a 3 inch device.. most of the HD games will be unplayable...
my conclusion is SE needs to speed up if they want to be in the android race..

Peak Oil is real!
There is speculation that SE might soon partner with HP (just like Nokia-Microsoft Alliance) to produce Palm OS devices... That would be awesome. SE has failed in the Android segment because of cut-throat competition from Samsung/LG and soon to follow Chinese manufacturers.

But if SE joins HP-Palm alliance, then they will be back into their favorite high-end high-margin devices game...

I wouldn't be thinking twice to buy a Moto Defy if I had 15k.

If you want 720p playback and 720p recording, why don't you grab the Spice Mi410 @ 14k?
