using virtual box

Can anyone tell me about intel vt-x and how to enable it?
I tried to install "win-8 consumer preview" in virtual box but it said vt-x is enabled but not operational. The OS might not detect 64-bit environment. How to resolve this problem?
My laptop specs::

sony vaio VPCEH28FN
win 7 HP 64-bit
intel i5-2430M processor 2.40 GHz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA geforce 410M wih cuda(512 MB)

If you are sure that intel vt-x enabled in your bios and you have XP mode on in your windows 7,then disable XP mode since it is locking intel vt-x and virtualbox is not able to use it.Hope it helps.

I don't know if win xp mode is available in win 7 HP.
How do I update my bios and what are the risks in it?

going by this
Intel® Virtualization Technology List
your processor supports intel-vt.

Have a look at this
Information about Intel(R) Virtualization Technology (VT) function : Notifications : Sony Asia Pacific

Download your bios update from here
VPCEH28FN : E Series (VPCE) : VAIO Notebook : Sony Asia Pacific

See if sony provided some tool to flash your bios with windows 7.
If it did,use it.

Else check the bios to see if it has inbuilt flashing utility.

Whichever method you use,make sure that your lappy does not lose power during bios update else it will corrupt the bios and will render PC unbootable.
