USB not working - pls help

no usb port is working on a laptop with xp - avg antivirus might have deleted some system file while removing virus - now can anyone pls give me the registry entry to enable the usb ports.
this lap is with recovery partition, so I am not able to just repair xp - it will format the hole thing which is not possible.

Sorry! don't have much knowledge about of this feild. You can cunsult through the internet searching or hardware Engineer or hardware consultancy.
