USB 3.0 for external hard drive

hi,
My PC configuration is little old and i have usb 2.0.Now i want to purchase external hard drive and it has usb 3.0 does it means that hard drive will not be detected or performance will be slow.Can someone shed some light on this issue.what happens if hardware has 3.0 and PC has 2.0.

performance will be normal. you'll get USB 2.0 speed. to get higher speed you need to have USB 3.0 on both the PC/laptop as well as device.

All USB3.0 device are backward compatible with USBS2.0 and USB1.1 devices/ports.

i thing that can be done is that you can purchase PCIE USB3.0 card and then use your external USB3.0 HDD to see the upgrade in performance.
