The situation in India is very bad.
Forget consumer bandwidth, another killer is the cost of bandwidth for T1 and higher leased lines. It is simply not possible to have servers in India even if one wants to, because USA and EU are so much cheaper. So most consumers have to suffer high latency.
I can understand datacenters being expensive because the biggest initial cost in India is land(!), but the government should do something *fundamental* to reduce the price of leased lines so people can host on their own or start private server farms etc.
The protectionism and RAW-babu paronia has to stop. Allow firangi companies to have landing points + distribute bandwidth in India.
Reliance has (had?) tremendous potential, but ever since Anil Ambani took over it has all gone pearshaped. He simply does not have the vision of Neetu and Mukesh. All he cares about is his silly little datacenters and how to milk the public; the moron does not realize that he is sitting on a goldmine called FLAG and can't comprehend the bigger game at all.
Truly unfortunate.
