Switching from Airtel to Docomo or BSNL

Have been with Airtel for more than 7 years and they have gone from good to bad to worse, both network and their service.
And they seem not to care about us at all. They don't care if our messages get delivered (yes, the Aircel issue). What happened to 'Every friend is ..'. Enough said and I think I am not alone.

I am pondering over switching to BSNL or Docomo. Or are they worse or is there any other _better_ option.

P.S: I forgot to mention, of late I having frequent drop of calls all of a sudden. I can hear the person at the other end, but he/she can't and in three to five secs, the call drops. I changed handsets, but the problem remains with Airtel.

I'd suggest Vodafone. Though I have no idea which Operator will be better in your place.

But generally (globally), Vodafone is much better than Docomo or BSNL. BSNL being the worst of all.

PS : My personal views upon my experience at Kolkata. Can't comment about other places.

Network quality depends on area. Its better you review all operators in your area from near by neighbors or friends
and port to it.

Avoid BSNL and if you roam a lot then avoid Docomo too otherwise its fine.
Apart from that Vodafone is good, if Idea is there in your region then it can be also be considered....

I'll be in Chennai during the weekdays and Vellore in the weekends. No roaming. Most of my contacts are either Airtel or BSNL. So I guess it would only be wiser to go to BSNL for 'on-net' call rates. 'Off-net' rates are also quiet competitive with BSNL. So far, I am now siding with BSNL.

No idea about your place. But here I can say, I've used every network and this is my view,
-BSNL: (it's not the worst, worse than worst). In times, a line will be unavailable for hours, and that time appears too often.
- Aircel: (better than BSNL, but still has the master degree for being poor). Line could be unavailable, but that doesn't stay for more than an hour, unlike BSNL's unlimited timeframe.
- ¡dea: (better than both above), but I faced severe sms delivery problems, messages wouldn't deliver at all! Phone connectivity was average, in a blocked building, no network!
- DoCoMo: (better than three of the above). Frankly you can use it.
- AirTel: (very good). My first connection was AirTel back in 2002, and I still would be keeping it if they didn't steal my 500 odd rupees.
- Vodafone: (very good). Been using for 5+ years, no complain. Super 2G signal, no problem delivering SMS.

That's right. With Airtel and Vodafone you can say you'll get tower almost everywhere, no issues like call drop / poor voice quality, all your SMS will be delivered successfully, super 2G and 3G speed.

From the very beginning using Vodafone, it's now almost more than 5+ years.

Been using Airtel from 2006, and absolutely no issues (apart from being most expensive). I don't know how come you faced call drop issue with Airtel. Next best is, was and will be Vodafone.

^^I didn't said Call Drop with Airtel, I said "no issues like call drop / poor voice quality" :p

And yes, Airtel and Vodafone both are best and both are most expensive. But that's justified for the quality of service they provide.

Also I think Idea is better than Docomo, still it's a contradictory issue. Idea 2G Speed is great here in Kolkata. Speedtest shows me 82kbps :p

Not just me. Many of my contacts using Airtel (Chennai/ TN) are having the same issue.
Airtel blamed it on Aircel that they were spamming Airtel network with free text messages and even blocked text communication with Aircel from Nov 9 (till y'day).
Even during this time, there was just as much issues with the calls (even between Airtel to Airtel in good reception areas).

There is an other issue as well, people sometimes are getting a 'The number you have called does not exist' error when the call me. I got the same atleast thrice when I called my brother (also Airtel).

Delivery of the text messages was the only reason I was hanging on with Airtel, but after this Aircel fiasco, I have had enough.

In that case go with Vodafone, ofcourse if you can afford their expensive rates..!!

Recent't I shifted to Vodafone Postpaid after using Vodafone Prepaid for more than 5+ years :D

Vodafone also disconnected Aircel (and may be Tata networks too). That is the only reason I am siding with BSNL where there is little or no chance of monetary dispute. Sure, they don' care about their customers, but they don't worry about their own profits as well :D
