Suggest config for 30k max

bORn To RIse....
my friend is going to buy a new pc in the next 3 days.... please suggest a decent multimedia-gaming pc with a max budget of rs. 30k..

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Generic answers will not work. Be exact and avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: a lot of hd movie watching, some encoding and occasional gaming like COD4 MW, batman arkham city, nfs shift, fifa 11(games should just run fine).

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 30k max(non stretchable).

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: win 7 32/64 bit.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1tb.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: no, already have a samsung b2030 20" lcd.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: lcd, mouse, keyboard, speakers, headphones, ups.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: in 3 days time.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: new delhi - will buy everything from nehru place.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
1. suggest both intel as well as amd configs.
2. try to squeeze in a discreet gpu.
3. an aftermarket hsf also needed.

i have thought of the below config(built it from xblade!).

intel core i5 2400 @ 9.5K
intel dh67vr @ 4.8k
corsair cmv4gx3 4gb*1 @ 1.3k
corsair vx 450 @ 3.7k
nzxt gamma @ 2k
seagate 7200.12 1tb @ 2.7k
sony ODD @ 1k

total: 25k

please can you suggest a gpu for about rs.5k to the above config..

(note: i've added about Rs. 200 to every item to get the max budget required..)

please reply.. :(

The price is not updated at all and the PSU is outdated. 2400 will cost you not less than 10K and 1TB HDD @ 2.8K is a dream now. It will cost you near 6K. Since your main purpose is gaming, the concentration should be on a good GPU, not in a high end CPU. Your display has a resolution of 1600X900 and I'm afraid that a sub 6K GPU will be enough to let you play all the current games in high setting. So an AMD based config is best for you:

AMD Phenom II X4 960T 3.3 GHz Thuban @ 6.5K
Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 @ 4.8K
Gskill 4GB X 1 1600 MHz DDR3 Ram @ 1.6K
Corsair CX500 V2 or Tagan StoneRock TG-500 @ 3K
Asus Black 24X SATA DVD R/W @ 1K
Sapphire HD 6790 1GB GDDR5 256 bit @ 7.9K
NZXT Gamma Cabinet @ 2K
250 GB Seagate SATA @ 3K

Total 29.8K. This is the best gaming config you can get in my opinion at 30K range. The processor I have suggested is based on Thuban architecture, present in AMD Phenom II X6 processors. It has Turbo Boost feature and best thing is it can be unlocked into a 6 core Phenom II X6 processor.

firsty, thanks for the reply.. (coming to tdf after about 6 months and it feels great to be connected once again.. :) )

can you please suggest an intel based config also for the above budget. also, he will also buy an aftermarket hsf (and so am i)... so how is cm hyper n 520 as compared to hyper tx3?

The Intel based config that is possible is
Intel Core i3 2100 @ 6K
Intel DH67BL-B3 @ 5.4K
Corsair 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 @ 1.2K (H67 doesn't support ram higher than 1333 MHz speed)
Rest is same. But I strongly recommend you to get the AMD config. 960T has same gaming performance and better overall performance than i3 2100. If you can unlock it into a 6 core then it will offer more VFM and performance.

N520 is EOL now and better coolers are available at the same budget. Hyper TX3 is a basic cooler and never made for serious overclocking. Hyper 212+ and Hyper 212 EVO around 2K range is the best cooler.

2ndly it looks like that your friend is in the overclocking business. Then AMD is the must buy for him as Intel non K series processors like i3 2100 or i5 2400, 2500 can't be overclocked. The cheapest K series processor i5 2500K will cost you near 12K and compatible motherboard is in 6K+ range.

wont it be better if he either downgrades or upgrades the GPU?
the difference between 6770 and 6790 is of almost <20% (in most cases)
he will save 1.5k or either he can add 1.5 k and get a 6850?

@ OP
if you can hold the HDD upgrade its recommended, let the heat come down, HDD prices are abruptly high atm
you will be able to get at-least a 500gig at 3k after some months.

Better to go for amd as cilus suggested here because if an i5 2400 is chosen, then gpu has to be downgraded. And for gaming, a powerful gpu makes more sense than a powerful cpu. 6790 is perfect for 1600x900 resolution.

That amd thuban x4 is a very good gaming cpu. So go for it eyes closed and there are chances of unlocking into an x6 as well.

@cilius : he isn't an overclocker, nor he would ever try to unlock the cores of thuban.. he just wants a pc for primarily gaming and movie watching.. he's getting a cooler because his assembler told him that "tumhaara pc garam hone se kharaab hua hai, ek acha sa cooler nae pc main zarur lagwana...." :?

and i want a cooler to do some OC'ing..(right now my pc idle temps are around 50'C even after applying a cm TIM....)

saw this config in some other thread on tdf (imo its a decent all round performer)....

Intel Core i5 2400 @ 9500
Intel DH67CL-B3 @ 5400
Gskill/Corsair 1333 MHz 4GB X 1 DDR3 Value RAM @ 1400
Corsair GS 600 @ 4000
nzxt gamma @ 2.5k
sapphire hd 6770 @ 7k
lg/samsung/sony ODD @ 1k

total: @ 30.8k~31k

i will tell him to skip the hsf (not needed)....

i will tell him to use his 500gb hdd for now and buy a new 1 after some time(when the prices come somewhat down)....

please point out if i've missed out something....

^^ But 6790 is a more powerful card than 6770 and is more future proof. Stick with that.

buudy, unlocking hidden cores of an AMD processor is nopt a big deal. All the current AM3/AM3+ motherboards come with that feature and if a processor is plugged with locked core, you will get a message during Startup and will be asked to press a key to enable the locked cores.
2ndly for primary gaming, Phenom II X4 960T + HD 6790/HD6850 is a better option.

now im in a dilemma.... the difference in the price is of only of about 2k.... which 1 is better?? the main purpose of the pc is GAMING + HD MOVIE WATCHING....

The i5 based config is better here. But if you can spend another 2K, you can add a MSI Cyclone HD 6850 OC edition to the AMD config, hence making it a better choice for gaming.

yup, at the same price you are getting 6core (if unlocked cores are stable) Phenom II + better GPU.
