I don't think that there are any demands of the ps2 as well.....ever since Cony released the ps3, the ps3 has became the preferred choice for everyone...

The discontinuing has more to do with creating more demand for PS3 - by default - than with any fall in demand for PS2.

Mostly yes - Sony could definitely sell more units of PS2 - especially in developing markets.

However, with PS4 in the works - it MAY make sense to discontinue the older model. Console gaming is also changing as such - hard core gamers still vouch for PC gaming, casual gamers are moving towards mobile devices (handheld, tablets, smartphones etc), and consoles themselves(PS3 or XBox) are trying to fulfill the additional role of media players.

PS2 has lived its life more than any other console...now PS4 will come so it is obvious of closing the manufacturing process
