How do i play real media files in ubuntu 7.10? I tried to install vlc,but got an error that says," This application conflicts with other installed software. To install 'vlc' the conflicting software must be removed first.

Switch to the 'synaptic' package manager to resolve this conflict."

Think Zen.
Which distro are you using?

If you have mplayer+win32codecs installed, you shouldn't have any problems playing real media.

What distro are you using?

Assuming it is Ubuntu, open up terminal and type

sudo apt-get install synaptic

Once installed, open Synaptic Package Manager and search for vlc. Mark it to install, apply and check the error message of the conflicting software.

Oh is it? Then start off by searching for vlc.

Edit: No joke, seriously I didn't know as I don't use Ubuntu.

AFAIK, vlc does no play Real media files.
There is a Real Player for Linux available, you can use it;)
