1)Do you really have ~30 or ~80 gigs of Music that you need to carry around?
2)Do you listen to music for over 3-4 hours a day?
3)Is size a major issue?

If you answered yes to all of the above, then choose the iPod. Or else the PSP. The PSP does everything. Games, Videos on the beautiful 4.3" screen, it's highly hackable and customizable, and you can also have an insane number of apps on it after you hack it. Not to mention it's cheaper than the iPod, and the new slim one is pretty pocketable as well.

And believe it or not, the PSP's sound quality kicks the iPod's virtual ass. However, the music management features on the PSP just suck.

If gaming is your top priority, go for PSP. The problem here is that for PSP, you can only use external memory (M2 cards), which means you can't have that many songs to listen to.

Since you are saying that you don't listen that much of music, I vote for PSP.

The price of Sony's 8Gb Pro Duo Memory card is around 5k (used for PSP)
Price of Sony's 8Gb Micro M2 should be around 8k, but am not sure.

Get either Sandisc/Sony/Kingston. Don't go for any other local brands as they have very high latency times and high failure rate.

IMHO, PSP is more like an all-in-one compared to ipod. The games that you can play on ipod are childing games.

PSP 2008 costs around 8k.
Skype is now available for PSP.
8Gb memory is enought to store loads of songs and few videos. Good buy will be PSP + 8gig memory. Tomorrow, you can get another 8gig memory when the prices fall and have a total of 16Gig.
With PSP, you will be having some flexibility over what to do with it.

With iPod, all you can do is play music and watch videos. No expansion of memory and nothing else.

or you can wait and get Sandisk card from US

FYI, a 4Gb memory card costs just 60$ but 8Gig costs 150$.

that means, for the price of 8gig, you can get 2x4gb + 1x2Gb cards

Buy an iPod touch (16GB or 32GB).

It's an iPod, has an awesome screen, the best user interface on any device, plays videos, songs, podcasts, what have you, full fledged Internet, WiFi, Mail, Google Maps, Games (awesome games that respond to Multi-Touch gestures and can recognise when you tilt the device and such). The list goes on... :)

Umm... you don't know what sort of games the iPod touch will have yet. It'll have Spore with all the nineteen levels and several more are coming.

The main thing is that it has an awesome interface for playing the games. You can tilt the device and the game responds to that. You can touch the screen with several fingers.

Plus, it has a full fledged Internet browser and WiFi built-in. Not to mention all the other supercool stuff and the huge amount of inbuilt memory. Plus, it is several times thinner and more portable than the PSP.

It might not be better than the PSP for gaming (and even that's up for debate) but it certainly is a better device overall.

spore. that's all??? and compare that to never ending list of games for PSP

Interface is there but not at all better than PSP's gaming interface.

Specifications state that the PSP is capable of rendering 33 million flat-shaded polygons per second, with a 664 million pixel per second fill rate.[8]

The PSP's main microprocessor is a multifunction device named "Allegrex" that includes a 32-bit MIPS32 R4k-based CPU, a Floating Point Unit, and a Vector Floating Point Unit. Additionally, there is a processor block known as "Media Engine" that contains another 32-bit MIPS32 R4k-base CPU, hardware for multimedia decoding (such as H.264), and a programmable DSP dubbed "Virtual Mobile Engine". The secondary CPU present in the Media Engine is functionally equivalent to the primary CPU save for a lack of a VPU. The MIPS CPU cores are globally clocked between 1 and 333 MHz. During the 2005 GDC, Sony revealed that it had capped the PSP's CPU clock speed at 222 MHz for licensed software. Its reasons for doing so are unknown, but are the subject of some speculation. Various homebrew tools enable users to operate at 333 MHz, generally leading to a higher frame rate at the expense of battery life. On June 22, 2007, Sony Computer Entertainment confirmed that the firmware version 3.50 does in fact remove this restriction and allows future games to run at the full 333 MHz speed. It does not affect already-released games.[7]
The system has 32 MiB main RAM and 4 MiB embedded DRAM. The 4 MiB of eDRAM consists of 2 MiB dedicated to the Graphics Unit and 2 MB dedicated to the Media Engine secondary processor. There is no memory management unit for either CPU. No evidence of a TLB has been found. The co-processor that normally manages the TLB-based MMU seems to be a custom effort by Sony and has no integrated memory. Both CPUs contain 16 KiB of two-way set associative instruction cache and data cache respectively. There is additionally 16 KiB of scratchpad RAM which, while faster than main RAM, is not nearly as fast as the integrated cache.
The 166 MHz graphics chip has 2 MiB embedded memory and through its 512 bit interface provides hardware polygon and NURBS rendering, hardware directional lighting, clipping, environment projection and texture mapping, texture compression and tessellation, fogging, alpha blending, depth and stencil tests, vertex blending for morphing effects, and dithering, all in 16 or 24 bit color. The graphics chip also handles image output.

Now, tell me how powerful is ipod Touch's processor and GPU?

Plus, it has a full fledged Internet browser and WiFi built-in. Not to mention all the other supercool stuff and the huge amount of inbuilt memory. Plus, it is several times thinner and more portable than the PSP.

hahaha.

FYI, touch is 9mm thick and psp 2008 is 18m thick. that's just twice and moreover, while playing games, the thickness of PSP makes it easy to handle and makes for a rocksolid hold.
4.3" 16M color screen compared to 3.5" screen of ipod touch

Install Opera and you can browse internet on PSP using the inbuilt Wi-Fi
Install linux on a PSP
Install loads of games, loads of apps on PSP.

The game pad of PSP blows off the touch interface of ipod while gaming. how do you play God of War on ipod Touch (if it comes). Even thinking of it makes me laugh.

It might not be better than the PSP for gaming (and even that's up for debate) but it certainly is a better device overall.

Typical fanboy quote who thinks that anything that apple makes is superb. Please go somewhere else. Tomorrow, who knows, you might even say that ipod touch is better than PS3 coz it's slim and has touch screen. LOL

Moreover, SOny has already released 16Gb and announced 32Gb memory stick for PSP. I am not saying that it can bought right away. Think about the flexibility. tomorrow, if you need more memory get a 16Gb card or 32Gb card. Have money, get more memory unlike ipod Touch where you cannot increase the memory and have to get a new device altogether (for another 15k or more).

oh come on Aayush, stop arguing that the Touch can even come close to matching the PSP when it comes to gaming. For gaming, you need buttons. and the PSPs' got 10 and an analog stick. The iPod touch has well.. umm I dont know, 1! And that happens to be the exit button.

Spore?!!! That too with NINETEEN levels???? ZOMG!! Who wants REAL games like GOW, POP, Daxter and Tekken???

Full fledged browser and wi-fi! Damn! Oh yeah.... the PSP has that too...

PSP+4gig card = 10,000. iPod Touch 8 gig = 12,000. [maybe more, dunno]

The day GOW is made for Touch, with similar graphics, gameplay and controls, I'll sell my PSP and buy the iTouch.

BTW... tilting != Awesome interface. The PS3 has the most advanced tilting features spare the Wii, and the first thing every PS3 owner does is turn it off.

And even at the music playing level, the PSP loses out on Music management, and even I agree that MM totally sucks on the PSP, but the fact is that it's Sound Quality blows the touch's out of the water.

and ....

other supercool stuff

oh come on. The PSP can do everything the touch can, and a lot lot more through the wonder that is homebrew.

Can the Touch play DivX? The PSP can. Surprising really, considering the Touch is primarily a Personal Video Player.

So pray tell me how,

it certainly is a better device overall.

I know I know! it has an Apple logo at the back.

But to be completely honest, the touch's interface is revolutionary by all means. But having a killer interface without killer features and killer performance to control is like having a saddle made of platinum for a lame donkey.

-==- edit:

what timing Desiibond! you posted while I was typing. Guess it just goes to show you can't speak ill of the PSP for too long around these parts without going unnoticed.
