I like the config given by saswat23 because of the Ahlon II Tri core processor. It is a far better performer than the Dual core E6600 and in fact beats the Dual Core G series processors based on Sandy bridge architecture.

It will offer:
1. Better Multi tasking capability and high multithreaded performance.

2. Very good gaming performance because of its 3 GHz speed.

3. Optimized for games with multicore support.

4. Better choice for long run as most of the applications are getting multicore optimized, even the browsers like Firefox, Google Chrome or IE 9 are multicore optimized.

5. AMD AM3 motherboard...will offer better upgrade options. You can get Phenom II quad and hex cores with 95W TDP range to upgrade in future. On the other hand upgrade path for LGA 775 is closed. You won't find any Core2Quad CPU now a days and even if you find some old stock, they are insanely priced compared to their offered performance.

I totally agree...but OP wants Intel (Don't know why :()

Also if he wants a cheaper Config without any regard to Performance then also AMD will give a cheaper config with Sempron 1.8K
TheITWares - One Stop for all Gizmos!AMD Sempron 145 Sargas 2.8GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor

With so low TDP it will also save elec costs

But at your budget AMD rig will be far better than any Intel rig.
