Do you use a client for Gmail Mail? If so ur comp is infected, better scan it with a resident scanner and check the results...

pretty easy to send mail to someone showing that it is coming from another id. you just need a telnet client and an internet connection.

can't think of anything other than what is posted by others. Just use the other rule of the thumb, if any mail is in your inbox, which you weren't expecting, well... that is what the delete button is for!

if you want to stop someone from just connecting to an smtp server and firing of an email pretending to be from a genuine id, it is not possible.
