New rig for 20k

Hi , im looking to buy a computer . I'll be buying it probably in the first or second week of Jan 2011 , as that is when my exams end

1. What is the purpose of the computer?
A: Moderate gaming , dont mind playing some high end games on low res . Have to work on SolidEdge . Plus movies , music etc ..

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A. Yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
A. 20000 Rupees

4. Planning to overclock?
A: No

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows 7

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: 500GB would be enough.

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want?
A: Should be big and wide enough

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A:3

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A:Assembler

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A:Jan 2011

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: There's a budget constraint currently . Might look into upgrading later. But the current rig should be good enough.

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: Monitor , Speakers , Keyboard/Mouse , DVD-RW

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: Mumbai

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary.
A: I would require a mid-range GPU for the gaming . Also , i won't be buying anything online .

Exceeds your budget a bit but its great VFM. Add a gpu like radeon 5670 later after saving a bit more. Its gonna cost around 5k. Currently its out of your budget but you can play some games with the onboard graphics at low res.

Hey thanks for the reply . But i think you misread some points in my post . I do not require a monitor , speakers , keyboard/mouse and a dvd-rw

Specifically for solid edge i would recommend an nvidia card because of cuda support and solid edge officially supports nvidia drivers though FX ones. Check this.

So if possible get a GTS 450 @ 7k instead of 5670 and its also more powerful.

Thanks Vickybat . I think i may have to increase my budget to about 22-23k . Okay for me to accomodate the GTS 450 , is it possible to tweak the config a bit so that the overall still remains around 22k? Like downgrade some other components without affecting the overall quality too much?

Because stretching the budget to 25k would be impossible!

Now you can shave 3k. The ups is necessary as it protects from power surges and gives uninterupted power. So its necessary.

So what if i change the processor from x4 635 to X3 440 and then choose GTS450 over HD5670 , how much of a performance difference will there be as a result?

You get one core less so lesser multithreaded performance. Go for athlon 2 x4 635.

I was on a budget of 22K which i stretched upto 23K . I had planned to get a 2GB ram , instead i got 4gb and transcend was the one which was fitting in the budget .
