India is a country of opportunity or not?

I am a guy.I am 20 years old. I was in E&C engineering but i am a dropout now because i lost interest and the college wasn't what i expected to be.I still tried to get a degree for 3 years after which it seemed obvious it was not my cup of tea..Nevertheless i give importance to college and i think nothing is more important in life than education and career of the person.I plan to join some other course in BCA to get into IT field.I am a aspiring developer and i have worked with symbian and android app development.I don't know if i will be successful or not,And there may come a time when even with my skills and knowledge i will be rejected and some guy with no year gaps( i ahve 4 yr gap in academic) or more marks in 12th and degree may be chosen over me by some fat ass HR and the company..I am not worried all about that..thats not what its about...Its fate,we cant change it...Job offer depends on luck and randomness and its just like the universe,nothing is predictable..We can only try our best nothing more..

Having said my introduction,i would like to further discuss..

1.Is india a land of opportunity? Do we get what we set out to get? Or does an engineer end up with a call center job or in BPO where 12th is enough to work nicely..

2.Does india have what it takes to be a superpower? Or are indian youth still in that 150 yr old british rule state of thought?

3.Our education system is rigid in a way. There is no community college,or courses that improve technical skill..IN other developed countries even a house builder has a home to live in and money for family.Look at our house builders..They have hardly a roof over their heads.. Do u think to move forward in world,We need better colleges and education system?

4.Are Corrupt politicians the problem with india's poverty? People seem nice during election and after that they just do give a **** about anyone but themselves..


P.s:Many of my friends,guys,(dude's,bro's) are sad..some of them , girls(especially ) cried the other day because they did not get campus for MNC coz of 2% less from cutoff..That is like 18-20 less after all subject totals..I was consolling them over phone and personally..I am just a good friend,We are close since childhood..thats all there..But it made me wonder how would my life be..I am curious though..anyways

Lastly i don't mean to offend anybody's views or feelings towards the nation and themselves..I am just curious and want a little discussion in my free time

Well, here's my two cent

I think India has opportunities, (yeah not as much as other 1st world countries ofcourse), but without academic I don't think there's much scope.

That also as a developer, one can easily join a company work in PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript and all, but to raise higher in the ladder, this academic gap will be a big problem. Can't say about other countries.

If you want to go business way, then there are not much problems like these, but for job these academic thing will be always there I guess. And also with raise in cutoff's and lakhs of students passing every year with > 90% marks, there's some tough time ahed.

As long as you are working as a freelancer (which is a great thing, and there's much more income than working on a Grade A Company), or a position in a small company / SME (be it Android Developer / Web Developer using PHP, or some Linux Admin) it doesn't matters much.

I have a friend who does freelancing and left his job with 8 years of experience, because there's much more income involved in it, and also developers get to work as their own.

I'd rather say, try to join a SME, build up your knowledge, get experience how things are done and all, and go to freelancing.

AFAIK, raising in this rat race ladder will require high academics. I have seen recruiters doesn't even check the CV's of Grads as Masters have become common now, almost > 50% of peoples are now going for Ph.D. God knows what's going to come in future.

But I don't want to demotivate you, as knowledge has always been the choice in this world. If you have knowledge and have potential to do things, academics can't stop you.

No, I'm not talking about miracle, just think of say you created Angry Birds, you do not need academics for that, but if you'd have did that, you'd have now been more famous than some Ph.D. person working on a MNC with > 1L/month salary.

So there are options...you just need to go through it.

1. There are a lot of opportunities in India especially for people who are motivated and determined and also have patience.

2.India is already a super power but in order to get recognized in this world as such all it needs is good leadership.

3.Our education might be rigid but this rigidity is required & essential for us indians as 4-6lakhs pass out every 4 years in Andhra Pradesh alone with B.Tech degrees and if this system is shortened to say 2-3 years then think 4-6 lakhs pass outs coming in short duration, So employment for at least 60-70% of them will definitely be difficult. Especially MBBS degree should be shortened by 2 years and B.Tech should be shortened by 1 year and M.Tech should be by 1 year.

4. Yes, definitely corrupt politicians. Take for eg. CM of AP from 2004-2009 winning both elections he has only a farm house in his native district & some plots in Hyderabad but after he died his son Jaganmohan Reddy run a political party, largest telugu weekly, cement factories, shipyards, Iron-ore mining and an unofficial bank balance of about 1lakh crore all possible because of his father who sold all most half of the government lands to private firms.

5.Take my position itself I am an Advocate who was working in the AP High Court as a Junior under a Senior Advocate and was getting 3k as monthly salary from 2006 onwards til 2009 when I quit because I am tired of this ****. It naturally takes 10-15 years to become independent and take own cases and earn money. I actually got married in 2009 itself and have a little girl aged 3.5years now but my wife was a MCA Grad. So she got a job as software analyst in Infosys Technologies in 2011 until 2013 but in 2010 itself she applied for a government job which did not materialize until 2012,December and she wrote the exam in Dec,2012 finished 8th in the Interview and now works for Nuclear Fuel Complex as an UDC drawing 22k as salary.

The conclusion here is : Have Patience... A lot of patience and apply for any kind of job whether private or public.

P.S: I even now dont have a job but I take care of my little one and became a house husband.


FACT OF LIFE:- A bright hard working friend of mine whose grand father was an Advocate General for the AP state for 3 terms consecutively is not able to marry even though he has his own office and he is turning 32 next month but take me for granted...

India is a land of huge opportunities. India's biggest strength is its population, huger number of high middle class income group people and availability of cheap labour. Now you shoudnt be the cheap labor you should actually use that cheap labor.
I would disagree with above posters education or academic qualification isnt needed to be successful what is needed is knowledge and skill. However education is needed to be socially respected in stupid society but then again you gona be respected if you are successful anyway.

There are lot of facts you might have heard from your teacher or friends etc like
Hard work pays of in the future
Key to success is hardwork

This all above facts are all BS which was passed on from generation to generation, maybe it was true for previous generation or so
Again what matters is knowledge.

Also remember this excellent darwins theory of evoltuion "Its not strongest that survive, nor is the smartest its the one who is adaptable to change"

If you are in same rat race that your society told to run which you are already behind it then you might not do great.
Think differently, world is your work place now. Be ahead of curve, run a different race where no1 else has even started

Ask yourself what is success for you, is it getting a job in MNC, is it getting a 25k salary job.

There are three people one wants to be a plumber he trains for it and becomes one. Other wants to be engineer he studys for it and becomes one other wants to be suceesful bussiness mans who has his own company. Even he reaches the goal.
Now which one of them is successful??
All are bec they all achieved goals they set for themselves. But third guy had a bigger dream hence hes highly successful and more wealthier. You can only get to a place where you think you can get to.


@Bavusani: wow i am shocked how little advocates earn. I thought they must be earning huge amount bec of the shear amount of cases in indian court. 3k is so low you can whatever other job and you can still make more than 3k.

There is a very small typical cigarette shop (gumti) near my home, earning 50k monthly, owning a "house" in Delhi. Now go figure out the prospects.

I know of a licensed pilot working in maintenance and overhauls with Jet Airways.

Still, there's plenty of opportunities. But more than plenty waiting for them.

Just stop giving a damn about what (people/parents/friend/brother/sisters/blah blah blah)...will think about you when you don't do something mainstream.
It's life , do what you want. Stay happy , do what it takes to accomplish what you want.

I am becoming scared that a majority of current population give value to money , and not life. You will see this more in metro cities , people spend majority of their life earning , doing redundant work and are left with meagre time to enjoy and think about life.

BTW , on topic - " For innovating something , the person needs to be driven by passion ."
Majority of our youngsters are passionate but end up being "TEH Sheep".

I quit my software testing job in April. Attended 2 interviews & didn't take up either job. I didn't like it.

Now, I start with a clean slate on Monday as an Accounts Officer for a considerably lesser pay package. I never considered money as the primary criteria. Finance is what I liked.

Yes, there will be difficult times and situations. I am fortunate to have the support of my family.

The choice will be yours to make. Chase a job just making money. Do a job which you'll enjoy/like.

Working in a private law firm means working like a donkey as my friend also works for 15k who does not even know how to speak before a judge even after 7 years of work experience.
P.S: If I want money then I have to work in private law firm but if I want experience and joy I need to work with my colleagues jumping from one court to another but this takes a lot of time maybe 6-7 years until one becomes independent.

^Yes knowledge is everything if you have knowledge you dont even have to work and still make money.
Choose wisely dont let your parents or parents of your friends or your relatives or the so called wise old man who is well past his expiry date tell you what to do. These guys 90% of time dont know jack sh*t of whats going on in this world.
Dont compare yourself with others. Sometimes your parents might tell you that some guy did some stupid course and is now earning 40K per month. Dont listen to **** like that.
Also never do any course from any institute you would be just wasting your money and time bec 90% of the time teacher themselves dont know anything.
Internet is vast source of knowledge just use it and learn it yourself.

Also remember when some1 tells you (especially your neighbors) that his/her salary is 40k per month. 80% chance is that his actual salary would be 20k.

Doesn't matter. One of my friend never bothered to join a company. He is a freelancer and works at freelancer, elance, guru etc. My manager's salary is also not half of his income.

He does Template Design, Logo Design, Wordpress Design etc.

And if you are asking about whether India is gonna become a super rich, prosperous and beautiful looking country like US or Britain then NO.
