1. Just connect ur desktop to wifi router using ethernet wire (or wirelessly if possible)
2. Then connect ur laptop wirelessly!

This is done as :
1. Configure ur wireless router with "internal/LAN" IP like 192.168.0.1
Then grant ur desktop an IP like 192.168.0.2 and let ur laptop acquire IP automatically!! Ping from one pc to another and u have them as u want!!

2. Now just enable samba on linux and follow post here post#5 and configure windows!

3. Ur done!!

Ok here wat I followed :

Assigned a static IP address to network card in Suse 10.2 wiz 192.168.1.25
*img291.imageshack.us/img291/747/networkerrorrp4.th.png

Added this IP address of linux desktop to LAN client page of my DHCP enabled router (assigned a static IP 192.168.1.25)

Sucessfully connected wifi adaptor of laptop to internet which is getting an dynamic IP my DHCP of wifi router .

but still both of these desktop and laptop can't ping each other

Hmmm then follow the IP configuration as stated by me!

can't figure how to

1. Configure ur wireless router with "internal/LAN" IP like 192.168.0.1

btw default gateway IP of my router is 192.168.0.1 and when u say
let ur laptop acquire IP automatically
do u mean let laptop get automatic IP from DHCP server ? (presently laptop is geting IP from DHCP)

1. See, Since ur Adsl is the main gateway, therefore it is having an internal IP like 192.168.1.1.
2. Now since ur wi-router is connected to it. Therefore it must be having an IP like 192.168.1.2 or something in 192.168.1.* domain! But this is not the internal IP of ur wi-router. This is the one allocated by ur ADSL to wi-router.
3. So u need to make internal Ip of wi-router 192.168.0.1
4. Now u have to connect Desktop to that wi-router with ethernet which u want and make its IP like 192.168.0.2.
5. Also make laptop which is wirelessly connected => DHCP enabled!

After all the config, find out the IP of both the machines. If they r on same network then ping and post the results.

Also how r u connecting wirelessly on Linux?

dude I am using a bsnl type(ii) modem it is having three ports one wifi ,LAN,USB .

I want to connect laptop(windows) using wifi and desktop(Suse & Ubuntu) using LAN for file and Internet sharing therefore no wireless for Linux .

But present situation is wired as I am not able to connect internet from linux desktop i.e there is some error between bsnl modem and LAN card link previously desktop use to get IP from DHCP of router but to enable file sharing I assigned static IP to desktop via yast and added this new IP in lan client section of modem .

Now it connects to this IP but can't ping modem it self ?

Why do u need to put the entry in modem? The routing table does that for u automatically. Remove that entry and then try.

^^^ no use knetwork shows IP address 192.168.1.25 but can't ping or open router gateway ! I think this is only thingh which we need to sort out ....

I was wondering do we need to bridge connection in router confi ?

Hmmmm
*en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_bridge

Neways first try connecting both PCs directly using LAN wire and then ping and tell!!

Put desktop on 192.168.1.2, put laptop on 192.168.1.3.
