Broken In
First change the IP address of your PC to 192.168.1.1 and the Subnet mask to 255.255.0.0

In your laptop put IP address 192.168.1.2 and Subnet 255.255.0.0

Connect the RJ45 crosscrimp cable and restart both of them and your are done.

If it does not work check whether the cable is crosscrimp or not.

There could be two things IMHU

Firstly check that you have enabled sharing.

Secondly check your firewall. The computers should be in the trusted zone.
